New York University Research Assistant in the Center for Genomics and Systems Biology - Dr. Kris Gunsalus in Abu Dhabi, United States

The Center for Genomics and Systems Biology (CGSB) at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is seeking to appoint a full-time Research Assistant in the Chemical and Functional Genomics Laboratory to work on a project aiming to find novel biocontrol agents to manage the spread of Red Palm weevils (RPW), a major threat to palm trees. The position will be based at NYU Abu Dhabi and supervised by Professor Kristin Gunsalus.

The Research Assistant will (1) screen a library of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) strains for a virulence phenotype against Red Palm Weevil (RPW) larvae using an oral infection method (2) assess the impact of the virulent candidate Bt strains on RPW fitness and biology, such as growth and development, egg hatching, boring activity, and reproduction (3) identify and characterize causal factors expressed in Bt strains with activity against RPW, selected from the screen using phenotypic, genomic, proteomic, and bioinformatic approaches (4) provide technical assistance for breeding RPW in the lab (5) prepare and maintain commonly used laboratory media, stock solutions, reagents, and supplies (6) perform basic microscopy and imaging . Applicants must have a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in biological sciences, molecular biology, microbiology, genomics, or related fields and an experience in a biology research laboratory.

The terms of employment include a highly competitive salary, housing allowance, and other benefits.
