Cleveland Clinic Simulation Operations Specialist in Akron, Ohio

As a Simulation Operations Specialist, you will support the use of simulation in multidisciplinary healthcare settings and prepare and maintain lab equipment and materials related to it. You will be responsible for helping plan simulations and human patient simulators, setting up and tearing down, and running the simulators.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages the daily operations of the Simulation Lab including but not limited to scheduling simulations in collaboration with internal and external support, performing clerical functions, assisting in managing the lab budget, providing periodic updates of lab operations, and orienting students and faculty to the lab.

  • Sets up and maintains the Simulation Lab and environment by controlling and maintaining up to date clinical lab equipment in good operational order. Oversees scheduled maintenance of lab equipment including cleaning consistent with manufacturer guidelines. Installs hardware and software equipment and performs upgrades. Ensures security and functionality of the equipment by performing operational checks. Troubleshoots equipment failure in consult with technical support. Makes repairs according to manufacturer specifications or coordinates outside repair as necessary.

  • Manages Simulation Lab supplies. Creates database for supply inventory in order to assess needs and track usage. Orders supplies and maintains the storage of such per established standards. Solicits supply donations.

  • Performs Pre-Simulation Activities. Creates scenario moulage and programs patient scenarios. Assembles pre-simulation learning materials and helps create documentation for simulations.

  • Obtains release consent as necessary.

  • Executes Simulatio n Experiences.

  • Pre-briefs students, residents, staff, and faculty. Operates si mulation console and software; manipulates the simulator during scenario and troubleshoots as required. Directs the activities of the scenario and ensures safety of participants. Records simulation activities.

  • Performs Post-Simulation Activities. Operates debriefing equipment. Administers evaluations to participants and provides a technical evaluation of the simulation experience. Restores lab to pre-scenario conditions and salvages re-usable equipment.

  • Manages particip ant simulation recordings and renders recommendations for improvement.

  • Collaborates with Faculty and Staff in order to develop standard procedures for creating and conducting lab scenarios.

  • Keeps faculty and staff informed of lab schedule s and advises as to equipment failure and alternatives. Offers technical support, advice and encouragement as needed.

  • Develops and maintains Simulation Lab Documentation and Resources, including operational manuals/policies and procedures, lab orientation materials, and technical reference and article library. Assists in developing and maintaining in-house software and internet applications and the Simulation Lab website. Manages digital media. Tracks attendance and lab utilization and generates reports as needed.

  • Keeps abreast of best practices and technology as it relates to lab simulation, including researching simulation products.

  • Attends conferences on simulation and related technologies and networks with other professionals. Assists and participates in simulation related research.

  • Markets and advocates the use of Simulation Learning and Assessment Center to internal and external organizations.

  • Produces promotional materials and condu cts tours of the lab. Assists in lab design and in the evaluation and procurement of future lab needs.

  • Completes mandatory training and education in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure.

  • Follows hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.

  • Other duties as assigned

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in health, education or computer science related field, or the equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education.

Certifications:

  • Registered Nurse or EMT-P certification in the state of Ohio. Maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS).

Complexity of Work:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of adult learning theories and methodologies.

Work Experience:

  • Five (5) years of experience in a health care setting. Experience in simulation preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Access, Excel and Word, and computer hardware/software applications relevant to simulator functions.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods

  • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment

  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
