SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Akwesasne TV Manager, the Akwesasne TV Producer (the “Producer) responsibilities will vary from project to project, but will include organizing production personnel, coordinating set construction, operating a teleprompter, supervising lighting or sound plans, editing scripts, or writing news items. The Producer may also select video segments, and be responsible for ensuring video and audio segments are in the correct order for a broadcast. The Producer might also be tasked with operational duties such as generating financial reports or status updates on productions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Produce and direct television, video, or film productions for entertainment, information, instruction or educational purposes. Responsible to carry out minor creative decisions – under the Akwesasne TV Manager’s direction, such as interpretation of script, choice of actors or guests, set design, sound, special effects, etc.

  • Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.

  • Write and edit content and related stories from information collected by reporters and other sources.

  • Coordinate the activities of writers, directors, managers, and other personnel throughout the production process.

  • Research production topics using the internet, video archives, and other informational sources.

  • Review film, recordings, or run-throughs to ensure conformance to production and broadcast standards.

  • Compose and edit scripts or provide story outlines from which scripts/production calls can be written.

  • Produce shows for special occasions; such as holidays, elections, yearly editorial events or testimonials.

  • Plan and coordinate the production of music recordings, selecting music and directing musical edits.

  • Knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operation of telecommunications system.

  • Develop marketing plans for finished products, collaborating with sales associates to supervise product distribution.

  • Perform administrative duties, such as preparing operational reports, distributing production call sheets and script copies, and arranging for location/set quarters.

  • Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.

  • Using computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, write software, set up functions, enter data, or process information.

  • Exhibit a friendly and courteous manner when dealing with our employees and fellow associates.

  • Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintaining them over time.

  • Communicating with people outside the organization, representing the organization to clients, the public, government, and other external sources. This information can be exchanged in person, in writing, or by telephone or e-mail.

  • The Producer is directly obligated to serve the best interest of Akwesasne TV, clients, viewers and other Akwesasne TV (“ATV”) employees.

  • Must be able to work flexible hours and work between home and studio/office.

  • Maintain confidentiality at all times, and keep confidential information within the Akwesasne TV program.

  • Promote a positive image of the Tribe; exhibit a courteous attitude/demeanor at all times, when interacting with staff and individuals.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: There are no supervisory duties for this position.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Associate’s degree in Communications, Arts Management, or Journalism is preferred.

Degree/diploma from college or university in field related to working as an associate producer, such as Arts Management, Television, Film, Communications, or Business Management fields with

Five years or more experience in production position, and/or

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Strong oral and written communication skills required.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Possession of a valid State Driver License in accordance with Fleet Policy.
