The Matthaiou Lab (https://www.amc.edu/researcher/efthymia-iliana-matthaiou/) is seeking a postdoctoral fellow who is passionate for science, have excellent communication skills and desire to be part of a close-knit team. This individual will lead an independent project related to the lab’s research on host-pathogen interplay during fungal infections. The Matthaiou lab is building therapeutic platforms and novel diagnostics for fungal diseases. Our research involves human studies and the development of artificial intelligence to predict the risk of fungal disease and the appropriate treatment regimen for patients with fungal infections. We are an interactive and diverse group with a team-oriented goal to improve human health and lives through scientific discoveries.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MD or Ph.D. in cell biology, molecular biology, immunology, hematopoiesis or a related field

  • Ability to design, conduct and troubleshoot hypothesis-testing experiments.

  • Ability to select and determine appropriate research procedures.

  • Ability to collect, compile, analyze and interpret data.

  • Competence in literature searches and ability to summarize information needed for studies.

  • Ability to prepare figures to depict research findings, write research and review papers, and present at scientific meetings.

  • Competence in common cell and molecular biology techniques such as qPCR, flow cytometry, imaging, western blot analysis, etc

  • Competence in cell culture (human and mouse, immortalized and primary)

  • Microbial cultures

  • Human sample processing and analysis

  • Experience with mice handling and in vivo models systems is preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate.

  • Applicant must be fluent in English.

  • Demonstrated writing and presentation skills.

This is a full-time position with full medical benefits. The PI will work with the successful applicant to develop a training plan to guide the applicant in achieving their longer-term career goals.
