BAE Systems EDIS COMSEC and Hardware Engineer in Albuquerque, New Mexico

Job Description

BAE Systems is looking for a highly qualified and self-motivated COMSEC responsible officer (CRO) to support the US Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command, Innovation and Prototyping Directorate, who is also willing to work as a hardware engineer. The activities are split approximately 50/50 between the CRO and hardware engineer roles. The position is on site at Kirtland AFB, NM.

Primary duties may include:

  • Managing COMSEC material and automated equipment, including maintaining security, from receipt through usage and eventual consumption/destruction

  • The selected candidate will work with alternate and government COMSEC custodians and will assist them in their daily operations

  • Conduct inventories of all equipment handled by hand receipt holders and will support periodic rekey and installation of new devices

  • Work with configuration management team to develop, update and maintain hardware baselines and conduct physical audits of hardware

  • Update and maintain Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) and develop/implement new SOPs as needed

  • Brief/de-brief users in and out of the COMSEC program

  • Ensure stakeholders are kept updated on significant developments and events

  • Perform technical reviews of mechanical engineering designs, calculations, analyses, drawings, or specifications to ensure compliance with project objectives or standards

  • Assist in developing estimates for new equipment and major repairs

  • Perform various duties to install and maintain equipment and systems

  • Provide emergency and unscheduled repairs of facility and equipment and perform scheduled maintenance repairs

  • Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments

  • Coordinate with task order managers for resources and priorities

  • Conduct analysis and investigations using Failure Mode Analysis and Root Cause

  • Manage various computer and network spares; identify spare requirements based on utilization and failure rates

  • Anticipate about 10% travel to Schriever SFB and the greater Colorado Springs area over the course of a year

  • Participate in after hours support as needed

EDIS Program Description: The Engineering, Development, Integration and Sustainment (EDIS) contract is for Contract Support Services (CSS) providing engineering, development, integration, test, and sustainment

of the Research and Development Space and Missile Operations (RDSMO) program Ground

System Enterprise (GSE) in support of the United States Space Force (USSF) and Space Systems Command (SSC to look at how to make the nation s national security space enterprise more resilient.

The SSC Innovation and Prototyping Directorate (SSC/SZI) at Kirtland Air Force Base, NM,

supports the USSF RDSMO program requirements. The SSC/SZI mission is to operate and sustain an affordable GSE for R&D and demonstration missions; to develop innovative solutions to reduce Operations & Maintenance costs; to provide a test bed to prove out emerging concepts; to build and support ground system instantiations, to integrate operational missions (major weapon systems) into the GSE, to integrate and sustain cyber defense, and to remain a viable choice for all new ground satellite operations command and control. In addition, SSC/SZI operates experimental and demonstration satellites, and fixed and mobile satellite ground systems.

SSC/SZI provides a collaborative partnership between developmental, test and operational

units to seamlessly develop and rapidly field new capabilities, standardize satellite operations

and exploit core competencies/strengths. SSC/SZI coordinates with SSC/SDTF to support the SSC

and EGS initiatives, as well as other Department of Defense (DoD) activities. As initial

capabilities are demonstrated for operational missions, those capabilities are expected to transfer

to operational sustainment processes, procedures, and funding lines. The SSC/SZI vision is to

create an innovative and collaborative R&D/demo GSE for use in all USSF R&D/demo

missions as well as all future operational ground programs under the EGS and SSC initiatives.

SSC/SZI is the USSF focal point and center of expertise for DoD experimental and

demonstration space and missile operations supporting space and missile R&D efforts and

conducting space and missile Developmental Test and Evaluation (DT&E) and Initial

Operational Test and Evaluation (IOT&E) activities.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Must possess an active Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility and be able to obtain and maintain TS/SCI

  • Bachelor s degree in science and technology related discipline such as Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Systems Engineering, and Computer Engineering from an accredited college or university with 5 or more years of experience. Four years of experience will be accepted in lieu of education.

  • Must possess DoD 8570 baseline certification

  • Must be familiar with NSA/CSS Policy Manual 3-16, Control of Communications Security (COMSEC) Manual

  • Must have recent experience (within the last five years) with at least 3 of the following:

  • Tracking all COMSEC inventory using the Key Management Infrastructure (KMI)

  • System administrator for the KMI Management Client (MGC)

  • Providing COMSEC customer support via walk-in, email, telephone, REMEDY, or Automated Messaging Handling System (AMHS)

  • Receiving, generating, and distributing electronic keying materials

  • Stocking, storing, and issuing keying materials to COMSEC subaccounts and other COMSEC accounts

  • Maintaining records and files, reporting security incidents, and providing periodic status reports regarding COMSEC material

  • Knowledge of the legacy Electronic Key Management System/ Local Management Device/Key

  • Knowledge of facility operations and maintenance activities and procedures

  • Experience supporting IT equipment, including cabling, racks, servers, switches, etc.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to team with industry partners

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $102200 - $173700
