Sr. Manager, Business Development & Integration

Job Description:

Investment banking background or Business Development (BD) background in the medical device or life science industry with experience in negotiating acquisitions, licensing agreements, distribution deals, and investments with global companies required. Strong communication and presentation skills in both Japanese and English required to be able to work with broader Terumo global leadership for deal decision making. The scope of projects may include products related to opportunities identified as part of MV Strategy, which may include technologies for advancing MV core portfolio of stroke and aneurysm therapy. May require leading integration work on signed deals. Develop strong working relationships with the MV cross-functional teams, Terumo global, and external companies. Job duties:

  • Identify gaps in the MicroVention product portfolio in partnership with MicroVention Marketing and with MicroVention R&D.

  • Partner closely with MicroVention Marketing and R&D to evaluate external technologies, as needed.

  • Negotiate acquisitions, licensing agreements, distribution deals, and investments with external companies (e.g., NDAs, Letters of Interest/Term Sheets, Final Agreements, etc.).

  • Pitch opportunities internally to Terumo global management in addition to MV management, prepare materials (in Japanese and English), and lead meetings with Terumo stakeholders to gain decision on deals.

  • Partner with MV and Terumo cross-functional partners to conduct due diligence and develop the business case including appropriate valuation models to facilitate deal decision making.

  • Lead integration workflow and deal management for executed deals, including any travel required to target sites.

  • Comply with applicable Laws and Regulations, adhere to Quality Management System processes and requirements as well as demonstrate Ethics and Integrity in all matters and at all levels throughout the organization.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  2. Bilingual fluency in Japanese and English.

  3. A minimum of eight (8) years of investment banking experience or BD experience in a medical device or life science company.

  4. A minimum of two (2) years of management experience.

  5. Strong business acumen and skilled at financial statement analysis and Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) model development.

  6. Experience independently negotiating and executing deals with global targets.

  7. Excellent presentation and written and verbal communication skills.

  8. Excellent computer skills including strong Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint working knowledge and experience.

Desired Qualifications

  1. MBA or advanced degree in a related field of study.

  2. Highly collaborative, with the ability to effectively interface with physicians, senior staff personnel, R&D staff, Marketing and Sales personnel, and global Terumo entities.

  3. Ability to work effectively in a team environment, articulate market needs, and provide leadership to cross-functional teams.

  4. Prior experience working with a Japanese entity.

  5. Capacity to analyze problems and develop solutions independently.

  6. Knowledge and/or experience with global market dynamics, preferably with overseas work experience.

  7. Neurovascular medical device experience.

  8. Ability to handle multiple tasks effectively and consistently meet deadlines.

  9. Integration experience.

Salary Range:

$164,000 - $172,000 (compensation could be higher/lower based on education, experience and skill sets)
