Talen Energy Nuclear Fuel Buyer in Allentown, Pennsylvania

JOB SUMMARY

The Nuclear Fuel Buyer performs activities necessary to procure uranium, conversion, enrichment, fabrication, and control blades for Susquehanna Steam Electric Station (SSES). Responsibilities include strategic planning, bid preparation, and evaluation, contract preparation and negotiations, contract finalization and execution. Provides documentation of key procurement decisions. Manages the day-to-day administration of all fuel-related contracts necessary to supply reload fuel and control blades for Susquehanna.

This position will be considered for the corporate office located in Allentown, PA or at the station located in Berwick, PA.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs nuclear fuel cycle related procurement and provides guidance to others in the procurement of nuclear fuel cycle components, analyses, and computer codes.

  • Maintains awareness of global market and geopolitical conditions with regard to procurement of uranium, conversion services, enrichment services, and fabrication services.

  • Activities include strategic planning; bid preparation, solicitation and evaluation; contract preparation, negotiations, finalization, and execution; documentation of key procurement decisions and related activities; cost analyses, fuel inventory, and maintenance of records for fuel procurement activities.

  • Administers contracts for all assigned nuclear fuel suppliers and fabrication services, acting as lead interface with associated vendors to assure a reliable and cost- effective supply of nuclear fuel.

  • Represents Susquehanna in fuel-related industry organizations and participates in source verifications and engineering surveillances at manufacturer's facilities, as part of the nuclear fuel vendor oversight program.

  • Maintains professional relationships with fuel vendors and maintains awareness of market conditions.

  • Advises Nuclear Fuels and Senior management of market opportunities and adverse conditions.

  • Prepare nuclear fuel capital budgets, financial projections, cash flow analysis, fuel amortization, and financial reports as requested.

  • Prepare and submit nuclear fuel related invoices.

  • Perform industry and government reporting.

  • Participates in the Nuclear Emergency Response Organization and plant outages, as assigned.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or business field

  • Minimum 10 years relevant experience

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Strong analytical and computer skills (MS Excel).

  • Basic knowledge of business law, contract requirements, and pricing mechanisms.

PREFERRED

  • Uranium, Conversion, Enrichment, and fuel fabrication market knowledge and nuclear fuel cycle experience

  • Nuclear Engineering experience

  • Experience evaluating, negotiating, and managing contracts

  • Demonstrated problem-assessment and problem-solving skills

  • Strong customer service focus with ability to build credibility with internal clients and external suppliers

  • Flexibility to interact with international suppliers in various time zones

  • Basic knowledge of business law, commercial terms and conditions, related legal issues, and pricing mechanisms.

  • B.S. or M.S. Nuclear Engineering degree

  • MBA or other relevant advanced degree
