PAY: $10.50/HR
Summary
The City of Amarillo Parks and Recreation Department is preparing for Summer 2025 and is seeking enthusiastic lifeguards for a rewarding summer job! If you love the summer season and enjoy working outdoors, this position is perfect for you. Our ideal lifeguards work 20-30 hours per week, follow lifeguarding standards, respond effectively to emergencies, maintain cleanliness, and may even teach swimming lessons at any of the citys swimming pools.

Essential Responsibilities
- Patron Safety: Ensure the safety of all patrons through preventive lifeguarding.
- Rule Enforcement: Know, understand, and enforce all swimming pool rules.
- Emergency Response: Respond appropriately to emergency situations and perform required lifesaving actions.
- Training: Maintain monthly lifeguard training hours (4 hours per month) to keep certifications valid.
- Facility Maintenance: Perform daily cleaning and disinfecting of all public areas.
- Swim Instruction: Teach assigned swim lesson levels as directed by Lesson Coordinators.
- Standards Maintenance: Set and uphold standards that promote a healthy and safe environment for all pool users.
- Policies and Procedures: Follow all guidelines outlined in the employee handbook and any directives from management.
- Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned by management or the Aquatic Supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Lifeguard Skills Pretest:
- 150-yard swim.
- Tread water for 2 minutes (without using hands).
- Retrieve a 10-pound brick from 7 feet of water.
Certifications:
- Must pass American Red Cross Lifeguard Training (provided by the City).
- Flexibility: Ability to work shifts between 9:00 AM and 9:00 PM, including swim lesson instruction.
- Teamwork: Willingness to work at any City of Amarillo Swimming Pool.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be at least 15 years old.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to respond effectively to emergency situations.
- Reliable transportation to and from work sites.
- Availability to train and work from mid-May through late August.
- No vacations or leaves of absence allowed without prior approval and shift coverage.
Work Environment
Work is primarily conducted outdoors in various weather conditions.
Requires adaptability to a dynamic environment with changing goals, priorities, and needs.
