As a community of staff, students, and faculty, we create experiences where students can creatively explore and reflect on their leadership identity, actions, and habits. We work to cultivate a community of leadership learning that is informed by collaboration, leadership habits, research, and mindfulness for students eager to learn about and engage in social change.

Responsibilities*

Student Experience Coordinator (50%):

  • Cultivate and manage resources to create a welcoming space and a culture of fun, positive engagement at the BLI.

  • Maintain a calendar of mindfulness and contemplative activities for students/staff in alignment with the Okenagan Charter.

  • Coordinate event logistics, menus, speaker itineraries, room reservations and vendors for a range of departmental activities.

  • Coordinate with the Communications Specialist to distribute event details and print promotional materials including posters, fliers, brochures, invitations, and programs.

  • Maintain BLI calendar, floor signage and BLI digital display.

  • Manage student and staff access to the BLI space.

Administration (40%):

  • Coordinate travel for guest speakers, director, and alumni.

  • Purchase and maintain inventory of classroom, office and programming supplies.

  • Coordinate service payments for panelists, speakers, photographers, and other vendors as assigned. Process reimbursements and invoices, monitor expenses against Institute budgets/

  • Track HR communications for temporary student staff.

  • Maintain files and schedules relevant to the Institute.

  • As this is a new role, create standard operating procedures.

  • Monitor main department email, answering questions and forwarding as appropriate.

General BLI Team Responsibilities (10%):

  • Assist the faculty director and associate director with implementing other projects and programming as assigned.

  • Support BLI's DEI 2.0 plan and supplier diversity initiative.

  • Serve on hiring committees as needed or leadership positions within the team.

Required Qualifications*

A high school education or equivalent and 2-4 years of experience in a professional workplace setting. Excels working collaboratively on a team; demonstrated planning and organizational skills with strong attention to detail, ability to work independently and manage competing work priorities, strong communication skills; professional demeanor and customer-service oriented manner. Proficiency with standard office software, applications and Google office tools. Ability to balance periods of fast paced team-oriented work and with slow placed self-directed work.

Desired Qualifications*

Experience in event planning and management. Experience preparing communications for diverse audiences. Interest in or experience with mindfulness or contemplative practices.

Additional Information

The annual full-time salary range for this position is $39,800 to $50,000 which would amount to approximately $29,850 to $37,500 with the seasonal leave. Please note a higher salary may be offered based on equity and the selected candidate's experience.

Please note this position also has an unpaid seasonal leave from mid-May to mid-August, each year. Some evening and limited weekend hours will be required.
