Summary
We are seeking a colleague to manage & organize activities, events, and projects for thenewly createdEileen LappinWeiser Center for the Learning Sciencesin collaboration with the Director and Steering Committee.Housed at the Marsal Family School of Education at the University of Michigan,the mission of theEileen Lappin Weiser Center for the Learning Sciences isto propel the innate capacity for human learning and to foster relationships that lead to wondering, understanding, becoming, and thriving. The center designs tools and practices that support human development across the lifespan to advance equitable and just learning systems across time and place.Center affiliatesare learners and interdisciplinary scholars committed to equitable learning that reflects the knowledge, goals, and priorities of communities where they collaborate . The Lappin Weiser Center brings a relational and humanistic approach to work on learning in addition to technical expertise. Center affiliates continuously learn about learning, balancing expertise with a receptivity to seeing things differently in ways that can fundamentally transform themselves, their projects, and their impacts.
We seek an energetic and enthusiastic colleague who is fascinated by human learning and committed to equitable collaboration with communities to join us to coordinate and manage this exciting new endeavor.
This position will report toLeslie Rupert Herrenkohl, Ph.D., Director, Eileen LappinWeiser Center for the Learning.
Responsibilities*
This position involves a distribution of work across general center activities (approximately 50% FTE) and specific projects initiated by the center (approximately 50% FTE).
General center management role will include:
Schedule and organize center steering committee meetings
Organize events including any travel needed for speakers, catering, etc
Manage communications and plans for communicating Center work in conjunction with the Center Director and affiliates
Develop website content and manage updates in conjunction with Marsal communications team and center affiliates including student interns
Establish and maintain social media presence in coordination with Marsal communications team and center affiliates including student interns
Support Center projects and project leads - help create systems to track and make progress on specific goals related to individual projects
Coordinate students/interns who participate in our ongoing work
Coordinate Center Director's schedule
The first specific center-initiated project will develop a tool that evaluates educational apps with attention to learning & equity. Responsibilities include:
Set up meetings with advisory board
Organize beta testing groups
Schedule meetings with student interns involved in the project
General organization and communication regarding the project
Recruitment and marketing to get the word out about beta testing
Support graphic design with the tools we use (that might go on the website)
Help support writing about this project with the project lead and participating affiliates and students
Create information to share on the website about this project
Required Qualifications*
Master's Degree in Education, Learning Sciences, Information or related field.
2+ years of experience in project management in higher education and/or K-12 leadership positions.
Must have strong communication, collaboration, and organization skills.
Must demonstrate the ability to work independently and effectively manage timelines.
Desired Qualifications*
- Learning experience design expertise, video content creation, and social media content creation and management experience.
Work Locations
The work for this position predominantly takes place in person at the Marsal Family School of Education, 610 E. University, Ann Arbor, MI 48109. If desired, there is a possibility for remote work 1 day/week.
