Summary

Assist technologists performing any and all functions to perform CT examination. Responsibilities include positioning patient for CT, starting IV, lifting, moving, and pushing wheelchairs and stretchers. In addition, PCTA will draw up and administer IV contrast for CT exam. PTCA will also dispense oral contrast for CT exam as needed.

Responsibilities*

Customer Service/Support/Communication:

  1. Exhibit consistent, positive, supportive attitudes, behaviors, and words.

  2. Communicate in an appropriate tone with patients, co-workers, staff, faculty, and management.

  3. Address both positive and negative feedback through the appropriate channels.

  4. Be pleasant, courteous, polite, and helpful to others.

  5. Provide comfort measures for patients to include provision of blankets, pillows, etc.

Assist Technologist:

  1. Help lift/move/position patients as necessary for examinations.

  2. Monitor patient to ensure patient safety.

  3. Retrieve supplies/equipment necessary for procedure.

  4. Understand basic Sectra functions and route images appropriately.

  5. Remain focused on case until examination is completed.

  6. Ensure that correct patient is getting correct procedure. Initiate 'Time Out' procedure.

  7. Review CT questionnaire with patient to ensure patient safety for CT procedure.

  8. Receive and carry out instructions promptly, accurately, and precisely in regard to patient care and CT Operations.

  9. Communicate observations/concerns regarding a patient's condition or safety to the CT technologist.

  10. Start IV's when necessary as well as administering x-ray contrast for patients' CT.

  11. Must understand radiation safety principles and complete all the necessary Cornerstone modules to address this topic.

  12. Must have a basic understanding of anatomy to know what type of CTs are being performed as to position the patient accordingly.

  13. Any other duties as needed.

MiChart support:

  1. Proficient with entering patient into Radiant system

  2. Knows how to arrive, begin and complete study in Radiant.

  3. Knows how to enter allergy into MiChart and Radiant system.

  4. Knows how to document IV placement in MiChart

  5. Knows how to look up patient labs in Michart

  6. Receive, relay, and document verbal, written, and electronic orders in the patient's medical record.

Equipment/Supply Maintenance:

  1. Report equipment malfunctions to manager/supervisor/charge technologist.

  2. Clean rooms, positioning aids, and equipment as necessary.

  3. Stock rooms with linen and necessary supplies.

  4. Check emergency equipment in each room daily.

Patient Transportation:

  1. Transport adult patients to/from ER to Radiology for examinations if necessary.

  2. Communicate with ER staff to assess patient status prior to transporting patient to radiology.

Clerical Support:

  1. Answer phones; direct questions to lead technologist.

Required Qualifications*

  • High School graduation or an equivalent combination of education.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills, ingenuity, creativity, professionalism and understand all age appropriate guidelines for communication.

  • Must have physical ability to push, pull assist and transfer patients safely from transportation devices to diagnostic table.

  • Must display physical dexterity using fine motor skills.

  • Dependability.

  • Medical Terminology

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills

  • 2 years of patient care skills

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Basic Anatomy knowledge

  • Maintain BLS certification.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Proficient computer entry skills.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, aseptic techniques, infection control, universal precautions and safety.

  • Some knowledge of radiation safety and BCLS certification.

  • Venipuncture experience.

  • Two years of patient care or equivalent work experience in medical field.

  • Phlebotomy experience preferred
