Summary

This is a Central Staffing Resource RN position which involves staffing assignments in the Pediatric Critical Care Cluster (PCC).

The PCC cluster services the following units:

  • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

  • Pediatric Cardio-Thoracic Unit (PCTU)

  • Brandon (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)

  • 11W Moderate Care (10 bed unit)

Hourly range for Registered Nurses $38.26-$59.35 / hour

Evening Shift Differential-$3.00 / hour

Night Shift Differential- $4.00 / hour

Day Shift Weekend Differential- $2.90 / hour

Evening Shift Weekend Differential- $5.90 / hour

Night Shift Weekend Differential- $6.90 / hour

Charge Nurse Differential- $1.00 / hour

CSR RN's will receive an additional hourly differential of $2.50/hour and will not be required to work holidays.*

Responsibilities*

Pediatric Critical Care:

Provide safe nursing care to a variety of patients, ages infant to young adult.

Floating among the Pediatric Critical Care units: (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Pediatric Cardio-Thoracic Unit (PCTU), and Brandon (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit), and the 11W Moderate Care area, is expected.

The need to function and have the knowledge to work with multiple pediatric specialties is expected. The ability to work with various central venous lines and the knowledge to administer specialized intravenous (IV) medication drips and dosages will be an expectation.

These patients often require ventilatory support and hemodynamic monitoring.

Family centered care is provided through collaboration with all members of the health care team in order to meet the complex care requirements of the highly specialized pediatric population.

This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C.

Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.

Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level F.

Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position. Posting may be filled after the initial 5-day posting period. Applicants who have left the UMPNC bargaining unit must include on their resume dates of past employment including months and years of service along with effort. Positions less than 20 hours/week may be combined.

Required Qualifications*

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.

One (1) year of recent Pediatric ICU RN experience.

Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification (PALS)

In order to be considered for this position the applicant must have met or will have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of employment.

Desired Qualifications*

  • BSN preferred

  • Recent experience in Pediatric or Neonatal Critical Care.

  • Experience as a float RN in a Pediatric ICU hospital setting.

  • NRP Certification.

  • Knowledge of the University of Michigan Health System's nursing policies and practice.

  • Demonstrated team player skills.

  • Positive communication skills.

  • Experience with family centered care philosophy.

  • Takes initiative in seeking professional growth

  • Demonstrated excellence in communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Demonstrated ability to delegate work to assistive personnel.

Work Schedule

Hours/Week: 36 hrs/week

Shift/Hours: Nights, 12-hour shifts

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
