Summary

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position under the guidance of Dr. James Weiland. The position offers an opportunity to work on next generation retinal prosthesis with an interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and clinicians.

The specific goals of the research are to optimize intraretinal stimulation. Using novel carbon fiber array technology, we will stimulate inner retina cells and record evoked responses using imaging and electrophysiology. Multi-channel stimulation optimization will be achieved using a closed-loop, semi-automated experimental paradigm. The findings from these experiments will feed into the design of a prototype implant to be tested in large animals.

The Neural Engineering and Ophthalmology research environments are excellent. The Neural Engineering Training Program and the Vision Research Training Program offer myriad opportunities for professional development and networking.

This position is available immediately and will remain open until filled. The initial appointment will be for a minimum of two years, with the potential for extension in subsequent years. The salary offered will be commensurate with experience.
