Pukall Lumber Company Manufacturing Forklift Operator in Arbor Vitae, Michigan

The Manufacturing Forklift Operator will drive an industrial truck equipped with lifting devices such as a forklift, boom, scoop, lift beam, swivel hook, fork grapple, clamps, elevating platform, or trailer hitch to push, pull, lift, stack, tier, or move products, equipment, or materials. The Operator will facilitate production and track inventory.

This is a regular full-time, hourly, year-round position with hours scheduled Monday through Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Other opportunities for shifts may be scheduled to meet the needs of the Company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Load/unload/stack material by raising/lowering the lifting device of the manufacturing forklift to load trucks.
  • Position forks, lifting platforms, or other lifting devices under/over/around loaded pallets, skids, boxes, products, or materials or hooks to tow trucks to the trailer hitch and transport the load to the designated area.
  • Move levers and press pedals to drive industrial trucks and control the movement of the lifting apparatus.
  • Inventory material in production and supply personnel with materials as needed in manufacturing areas.
  • Identify and report any damage to products, industrial trucks, and Company property (i.e. buildings, storage racks).
  • Weigh material or product on a certified scale; record weight on tags and labels for delivery; provide weight information to Dispatch for completion of delivery documents.
  • Load lumber into kilns for drying; start kilns; record package numbers for entry into the inventory management system (SCI); unload kilns; deliver dry lumber to storage and shipment locations.
  • Prepare lumber for manufacturing per customer specifications by re-drying lumber to specific moisture contents. Plan and ready lumber one week in advance based on upcoming customer orders.
  • Maintain coverage of high-grade loads and/or lumber to protect from elements (i.e., rain, snow).
  • Communicate with all levels of personnel through Wholesale Production.
  • Perform basic maintenance on industrial trucks as needed (lubricate lift, recharge batteries, fill fuel tank). Assure basic daily and weekly maintenance is performed; complete daily checklist and document; communicate needed repairs of equipment or Company property.
  • Organize storage areas by properly arranging and lining packs safely to help monitor inventory; maintain the cleanliness of storage areas (i.e., pick up Spacers when not in use). Close storage sheds daily at the end of production (i.e., close doors, lights off).

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. A current and valid driver's license is required.
  • Prior experience in operating industrial motor vehicles is required. Prior experience in operating manufacturing forklifts is highly preferred. Familiarity with construction-related materials in order to understand products on orders required.
