Lockheed Martin CNC Machine Operator Sr in Archbald, Pennsylvania

Description: You will be a CNC Machine Operator for our Archbald team, responsible for setting up and operating computer numerical controlled machining centers to produce mid to high complexity parts.

What You Will Be Doing

As a CNC Machine Operator Sr, your responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

• Set up and operation of one or more computer numerical controlled machining centers for both horizontal and vertical machines for mid to high complexity parts. Performs such operations as drilling, milling, boring, & tapping, etc. on any and all types of work within the scope of the machine

• Selects and installs proper cutting tools, and zeroes in the machine to control. Shapes and installs proper cutting tools select proper tool offsets to meet quality standards and make other necessary setup adjustments

• Selects and loads proper CNC program in machine control to insure proper operation of the machine

• Follows instructions to machine, fabricate, or assemble parts to print and operation sheet specifications using conventional and CNC machines

• Interprets CAD data, prints and sketches with regard to fabrication and can follow written/verbal instructions

• Performs secondary operations during the machine cycle such as deburring and straightening

• Inspects parts as they are produced using standard gages, micrometers, indicators, vernier calipers, depth gages, and other measuring devices, to ensure conformity to specifications

• Inspects cutting tools for wear to ensure the quality of parts and makes adjustments during production run as required to maintain quality parts and to keep the machine running

• Maintains coolant levels to ensure a steady supply of coolant/cutting fluids to the machine

• Receives and, when assigned, provides cross-training for other tasks related to department functions and procedures

• Recommends and executes changes to achieve process improvements and/or cycle time reductions

• Inspects set up parts prior to submission to inspection for approval to the fullest and most practical extent possible

• Assists in providing feedback on prescribed processes, fixturing, and tooling to Manufacturing Engineers to ensure that off-line engineering is complete and optimize efficiency before online operations are performed

• Analyzes machining results and performance targets with budgeted times and communicates shift targets for jobs to be run in production

• Investigates “out of specification” problems in machining processes and work with ME’s and programmers to resolve such issues

• Provides technical support to Manufacturing personnel

• Verifies gages and inspection equipment required are correct and appropriate for the task

• Verifies NC code during execution of setup

• Pre-sets and installs proper cutting tools select proper speeds, feeds, and depth of cut where applicable to maintain the proper quantity and quality standards

• Edits CNC programs

• Adheres to safety guidelines and the correct procedures for performing tasks to prevent personal injury or damage to product and/or equipment

• Performs minor preventive maintenance to equipment

• Performs other job-related duties as required by management

Basic Qualifications:

• 5 years, or equivalent experience/combined education, with additional specialized training in specific aspects of job functions and with demonstrated ability to meet production time standards with minimal defects

• Demonstrated experience in setup of lathe and milling machines

• Proficient in use of Measuring Equipment and able to verify conformance of machined work piece to specifications

• Proficient in reading and understanding complex mechanical blueprints

• Experience in selection and installation of proper cutting tools, and zeroing the machine to control. Experience in shaping and installing proper cutting tools and selecting proper tool offsets to meet quality standards and make other necessary setup adjustments

• Must know M & G code to be able to program, edit & trouble shoot CNC program at machine

• Proficient at GD&T

• Experience working/machining steel, aluminum and stainless steel with knowledge of machining speeds and feeds required

• Experience working successfully in a team environment

• Good oral and written communication skills

Desired Skills:

• Experience in the development of, or redesign of, tooling and fixtures to improve quality or reduce costs

• Excellent knowledge of tooling and cutting condition calculations; know proper use and selection of different inserts, cutting tools and cutting tool geometries

• Excellent knowledge and application of GD&T

• Experience programming with GibbsCAM

• Experience with Solid Modeling

• Ability to perform complex calculations related to machining

• Knowledge of such tools as SAP, Command Media, Apriso, PAL, dPLM, Apriso, Microsoft Office

• Demonstrated experience in mentoring/teaching of junior machinists

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
