Amazon Program Manager, WHS RME, Technician Readiness in Arlington, Virginia

The Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) Program Manager, North American (NA) Reliability Maintenance Engineering (RME) will provide direct WHS support and partnership to North America Reliability & Maintenance Engineering. This role will also support global WHS RME initiatives. This role will also be responsible for engaging, collaborating and partnering with technical subject matter experts (SMEs) within WHS, RME, and other functions (e.g. Operations (Ops), Ops Construction, Ops Engineering, Worldwide Engineering, Research & Development, Learning & Development, Standards & Procedures, 3rd Party Vendors, Suppliers, Amazon Robotics, Procurement, etc.) to continually improve network WHS standards and procedures. The Regional WHS Manager, NA RME supports both the field in program execution but also is a technical program manager role responsible for managing RME related NA WHS programs (e.g. NA WHS procedures, training content, processes, best practices, and network capital projects. The role also will own one or more of the RME safety processes, such as Technician Safety Concerns, Technician Safety Week and Marketing, RME Safety Network Actions (RSNA), RME Technical Safety Teams, Zappos Arc Flash, Zappos Safety Shoes, Metrics, Fall Hazard Engineering program, Confined Space, RME Safety Training, etc.

About the team

Program Manager, WHS RME, Technician Readiness Additional Responsibilities:

• Support WHS RME goals by developing and executing action plans, and measuring their results.

• Become a SME in Amazon’s WHS procedures, Including Hazardous Energy Control, Working at Heights, Hoisting & Rigging, Hand Tools, Hot Work, Confined Space, Electrical Safety, Walking & Working Surfaces, PIT & Aerial Lift, and the RME No-Go List.

• Manage updates to procedures owned by WHS RME, in partnership with the Standards & Procedures team and stakeholders.

• Support with the updates, approval, and publishing of network RME PMVs, VSOPs, and JHAs

• Assist in the development and planning of new WHS training and procedure content.

• Prepare data-driven narrative white papers for executive level review, meeting Amazon’s bar for technical writing.

• Manage the WHS RME Safety Ambassador group by scheduling and facilitating meetings, tracking actions, and developing projects.

• Develop a partnership with RME and stakeholder teams, including RME operations leaders, RME 3rd party vendors, Standards & Procedures teams, Learning & Development teams, Electrical Engineering, Design & Construction, Ergonomics, Industrial Hygiene, Fire Life Safety, and others.

• Support RME PPE programs, including arc flash apparel, safety footwear, and prescription safety glasses. Including issues via SIM.

• Respond to technician escalations through the Safety Questions & Concerns (SQC) process.

• Support and develop regular occurring technician engagement activities, including planning and logistics support for Technician Safety Week.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of program or project management experience

  • 3+ years of defining and implementing process improvement initiatives using data and metrics experience

  • Knowledge of Excel (Pivot Tables, VLookUps) at an advanced level and SQL

  • Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements

  • Experience working cross functionally with tech and non-tech teams

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering, Construction Safety, Environmental Health and Safety Management

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of driving end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership experience

  • 3+ years of driving process improvements experience

  • Experience in stakeholder management, dealing with multiple stakeholders at varied levels of the organization

  • Experience building processes, project management, and schedules

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $66,800/year in our lowest geographic market up to $142,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
