Our Purpose

We are seeking a hands-on Packaging Engineer II to support our manufacturing operation. You will work closely with several functions including Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, R&D and Sustaining in the delivery of daily packaging process support to meet KPI’s (e.g. Yield and OEE), continuous improvements and new equipment introductions and validation. You will ensure the outcome of your work and focus will drive consistent packaging and labelling quality output of our packed endotracheal, tracheostomy and vascular medical devices used to alleviate pain, restore health and extend life of our patients.

The Packaging Engineering scope includes materials, components, process, equipment, automation, labelling, scanning, materials, metrics measurement and reporting, qualification and validation, financial and technical performance.

A Day in The Life Of:

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned;

  • Designs packaging and labelling processes, procedures and packaging layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling and fabrication of tools.

  • Designs arrangement of packaging and labelling machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layouts.

  • Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of packaging tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.

  • Implement statistical process control, OEE and process efficiency measurement and improvement tools.

  • Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency. Support technical root cause investigations and implement corrective actions.

  • Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations. Contributes to and partners with the New Product Introduction (NPI) function to define, execute and deliver on NPI requirements.

  • Leads verification, validation, and implementation of package systems for both design and process development.

  • Develops technical documentation including design specs, input requirements, validations and technical reports in accordance with quality system requirements.

  • Utilises project management skills to gain alignment, lead cross functional teams, and drive continuous improvement projects that focus on “best in class” outcomes.

  • Utilises functional excellence in packaging development following Design for Reliability and Manufacturability practices (DRM), 3D Software Design (SolidWorks, FEA), Statistics (Minitab) along with Project Management techniques.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Level 8 or higher qualification in Engineering or Science related discipline

  • Requires minimum of 2 years of relevant experience

  • Experienced in working with DFA (Design for Automation), Lean Sigma, Analytical packages incl. Minitab advantageous.

  • Experience working with manufacturing documentation (MP, IP, BOM, CDP, IQ, OQ, PQ).

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Computer literate; word processing, spreadsheets, Solid works, AutoCad.

  • Knowledge of materials associated with medical devices such as polymers (nylons, PVC, polyethylene, polypropylene, Pebax, PTFE, polycarbonate, films, Tyvek, etc.).

  • A dynamic team player who can work effectively and proactively on cross-functional teams. An effective and creative problem solver

  • Energetic, self-driven with a tenacious drive for results and motivated to ensure on-time, high-quality delivery of projects in accordance with plant KPIs. Well organized and resourceful.
