Position Summary

In support of Morehouse School of Medicine’s Vision; “Leading the creation and advancement of health equity to achieve health justice,” the Center of Excellence on Climate and Environmental Health is seeking an Environmental Justice Coordinator to join their team!

The Climate Coordinator will be responsible for planning, implementing, and coordinating programs and strategies that promote and address climate and sustainability issues. The coordinator will work collaboratively with various stakeholders to develop initiatives aimed at mitigating climate inequalities and fostering sustainable practices.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, environmental science, sustainability, public policy, or related field.

Experience:

  • Previous experience in climate justice and/or community engagement.

  • Strong understanding of environmental/climate policies and regulations.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and communities.

    Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Master’s degree in public health, environmental science, sustainability, public policy or related field.

Experience:

  • Familiarity with GIS mapping and data visualization tools.

  • Experience in project management and grant writing.

  • Knowledge of social justice principles and their intersection with environmental issues.

Job Duties

Description of Job Duty

Climate Change Mitigation:

  • Stay informed about climate change science, policies, and best practices.

  • Develop and implement strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainable practices.

  • Work with local government and organizations to integrate climate resilience into community planning.

Community Engagement:

  • Facilitate community meetings, workshops, and outreach events to raise awareness about climate issues, inequalities, and impacts.

  • Build relationships with community members, leaders, and organizations to ensure inclusive participation in environmental initiatives.

Policy Advocacy:

  • Monitor and analyze climate policies at the local, state, and federal levels.

  • Advocate for policies that promote climate justice and sustainability.

  • Collaborate with policymakers and legislators to influence positive change.

Data Collection and Analysis:

  • Collect and analyze data related to climate issues, inequalities, and impacts.

  • Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings to stakeholders and the broader community.

Immunization Requirements

It is MSM’s Immunization policy that all Prospective Employees are required to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID -19 prior to commencement of employment. If employment will commence during Flu Season, MSM requires all individuals to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless granted an exemption. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain an exemption from MSM will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
