Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

95% - Research Operations

  • Serial dilutions, gram staining, agar plating assays, and microscopy

  • Developing and executing standard operation procedures including performing general lab chores, making agar plates, autoclaving, ordering reagents and maintaining regulatory requirements

  • Loading nanoparticles with drugs and quantifying drug delivery kinetics

  • Experience with microbiology assays and polymer-bacteria interactions

  • Mechanical characterization of polymers and polymer composites

  • Mastery of general microbiology including: chemical management, biology of bacteria and microscopy

  • Cell culture and colony identification and quantification

  • Tissue and cell extraction of RNA/DNA and protein

  • Proficiency in Western blot assay, PCR, immunohistochemistry

  • Mouse handling and survival surgery

  • Aseptic technique, disinfection, and sterilization

5% - Administrative Duties

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • PhD in relevant scientific area such as Microbiology, Immunology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Biophysics or Reproductive Biology

  • Relevant previous post-doctoral experience (for applicants with a previous postdoctoral fellowship)

  • Relevant technical skills, including experience with and routine laboratory experiments such as performance and analysis of real-time PCR, western blotting, biochemical assays, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in cell culture, cytotoxicity assays and animal/mouse handling

  • One year or more years of experience with bacterial assays, macromolecular synthesis, polymer synthesis and characterization

  • Both classroom and laboratory experience.

  • Candidates should have the ability to work independently, identify and set priorities, and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
