Microsoft Corporation Director, Supply Operations in Austin, Texas

Microsoft’s Cloud business is experiencing explosive growth, and the Cloud Supply Chain (CSCP) organization is responsible for enabling the infrastructure underlying this growth. CSCP is responsible for strategic sourcing, customer demand forecasting, capacity planning and management, supply chain planning and execution, capacity provisioning, and decommissioning and dispositioning of datacenter assets worldwide.

We are looking for a Supply Operations Director, to join our Supply Operations team. This position will be responsible for managing a team of global supply managers to provide suppliers with weekly forecast and capture their commits to determine overall supply chain supportability. This includes supporting our 3PL/regional hub strategy and buffer setting processes to assure supply is available when needed. The Director of Supply Operations will contribute to defining key processes, systems, and tools, including transitions to new tools to improve our overall process. Candidates should be a subject matter expert in the field of supply planning for electronics manufacturing and help create new processes and improvements to drive continuous improvement in our supply chain. Capable candidates will work with all levels of management, be effective communicators and have ability to manage complex situations with clear updates and effective results. This role will work closely with our supplier partners, 3PL providers, as well as internal stakeholders to communicate supply concerns and put mitigation plans in place accordingly.

Responsibilities

  • Manage team of 6-8 responsible for the planning and procurement of Commodities such as HBM, CPUs, GPUs, HDDs, SSDs, DIMMs, NICs, FPGAs, and associated hardware.

  • Manage and drive metrics including weeks of supply, E&O, shortages within lead time and inventory exposure at each supplier to improve performance.

  • Define and implement our overall supply management strategy to increase available supply, mitigate E&O risk and assure clear visibility into supply availability.

  • Work with Supply Chain and Capacity Planning teams on the timing and availability of product transitions in order to plan for platform end of life (minimizing E&O inventory) and ramp of new platforms.

  • Define inventory buffer targets (in conjunction with Component Planning) and strategies based on historical usage and forecast, define financial risk/liability associated with said buffers

  • Travel to suppliers and support MSFT Sourcing with supply capability feedback and scorecard performance.

  • Perform scenario analysis to understand impact of component shortages, demand upside/downside, etc. to Supply Plan of Record.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Supply Chain Analytics, or related field AND 10+ years supply planning, operations, supply chain, indirect supply planning, technology-related supply chain, sourcing and manufacturing, or related experience

  • OR Master's Degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Business, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Supply Chain Analytics, or related field AND 8+ years supply planning, operations, supply chain, indirect supply planning, technology-related supply chain, sourcing and manufacturing, or related experience

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years in demand and/or supply planning, preferably in an OEM/ODM/CM supply chain

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Capable of performing complex data analysis to identify problems or opportunities to improve supply chain performance.

  • Knowledge of electronics manufacturing processes and logistics.

  • Experience leading or managing a high-performance team.

  • Direct experience in electronics assembly and server industry.

  • MBA, master’s in industrial engineering, Supply Chain or related field.

  • Proven track record in delivering change, process improvement, and lean manufacturing.

  • Experience with MRP/ERP systems, including material planning specific software such as SAP IBP.

  • Experience with MS Office Applications, focus on Excel

Supply Planning M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $129,200 - $273,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $162,000 - $299,400 per year.
