Plastic Express Fleet Maintenance Mechanic in Baytown, Texas

Job Summary:

The Fleet Maintenance Mechanic will physically perform the scheduled and unscheduled maintenance required of large production trucks and trailers. Will also physically build up new tractors with Plastic Express installed equipment and decommission old/obsolete tractors.

Essential Functions/Duties:

  • Safely perform preventive maintenance repairs and service on Plastic Express trucks & trailers non-DOT

  • Repairs truck/trailer parts, removing parts and reinstalling as necessary

  • Oil and lubricate moving parts on trucks & trailers to ensure effective performance non-DOT

  • Record and report damaged, worn, or broken parts

  • Install replacement parts; accurately maintain inventory for trucks & trailers

  • Assist in identifying the causes of unexpected breakdowns; offer solutions on how to repair & prevent similar events in the future

  • Repair broken trucks & trailers parts quickly and efficiently

  • Clean, organize, inventory, stock, and otherwise maintain shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies

  • Coordinate with Terminal Managers to schedule regular maintenance on trucks PTO, drivelines & other mechanical parts

  • Collaborate with Terminal Manager or AVP regarding new parts being added and/or modifications that will be required to keep the fleet safe and moving

  • Make necessary modifications and implement tests runs; confers with the Terminal Manager regarding test results and makes additional alterations to truck & trailers as required.  (No changes to equipment without AVP/VP approval)

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

  • Maintain a clean work area and exercise Safe Work Practices at all times

    Qualifications: 

    Required Education and Experience:

  • High School degree or equivalent

  • Skilled Aluminum Welder

  • All-around mechanical understanding of hydraulic, air, and electrical systems 

    Preferred Education and Experience

  • Knowledge of Vacuum Pneumatic tanks & equipment

  • Computer knowledge of ELD & In-Cab Camera systems

    Physical Demands

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  These tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Prolonged periods standing and walking

  • Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service trucks & trailers

  • Must be able to visually inspect trucks & trailers

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

    Licenses/Certificates:  

  • Class “A” or “B” license preferred

    Skills:   

  • Works well independently and with others

  • Good communication skills

  • Organized with attention to detail

  • Mechanically proficient in safe shop operation and safe tool usage

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment

  • Ability to type and use a computer

  • Ability to proofread

  • Ability to solve problems

  • Ability to organize and prioritize work

    Additional Job Details:

    Supervisory Responsibility: 

  • Will have supervisory responsibilities for up to 5 individuals

    Work Environment: 

  • Outdoors / Maintenance Shop / New install Terminals & Tank Washes

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: 

  • This is a full-time position. Must be able to work overtime, long hours, weekends and holidays when needed

    Travel:

  • Approximately 25% close proximity travel is expected for this position
