A Brief Overview The Medical Assistant is a part of the patient care team that works with a provider in a variety of settings such as doctors offices, urgent cares and clinics. They demonstrate compassionate patient care, knowledgeable clinical procedures, and administrative duties. Typical duties include: Record patient history and personal information, measure vital signs, assist physicians with examinations, give injections or medications as permitted by law, schedule appointments, prepare samples for lab tests and update EHR (electronic health record) information. This position is responsible for independently performing advanced Medical Assistant duties which may include advanced procedures specific to the department, coordination of the work for other Medical Assistants or performing patient or population based care navigation. Facilitates unit operations by managing patient flow. Completely independent with all front desk duties specific to department, including scheduling patients, collecting and verifying patient payor information and other patient documentation. Assists manager with developing and facilitating process improvement initiatives. Provide direct patient care. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills both written and verbal, as well as exhibiting strong organizational skills and work ethic. Demonstrates a professional demeanor when responding to patients and customers, basic computer data entry skills Additional Responsibilities Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards. For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation. Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
