Pride in your community’s education 403B Matching Fund Purpose: The EL Teacher provides specialized instruction for the purposes of developing Multi-Language Learners’ ability to effectively perform in courses of study in English and acquire proficiency in the English language. Essential Job Duties Plans, organizes, and provides instruction in English in the Core Curriculum Content Standards and Montana English Language Proficiency Standards. Instruction must be consistent and coordinated with the district’s instructional program so that students meet or exceed learning targets and the requirements outlined in the state and federal law. Develops and delivers lesson plans utilizing a broad range of appropriate differentiated techniques and strategies addressing all aspects of communication that develop each student’s ability to read, write, speak, and listen in content areas at levels that ensure learners meet or exceed learning targets, and allow English learners to meaningfully access the district’s instructional program. Applies the principles and practices promoted by the Science of Reading to provide effective instruction to EL students. Administers academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student’s progress in meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition. Maintains complete and accurate records of student’s progress and evidence of growth and progress. Provides a nurturing, supportive, and positive learning environment with high expectations that encourage student responsibility, enhance motivation, clearly communicate classroom routines, and incorporate challenging instructional strategies. Facilitates frequent and effective home-school communication by coordinating: conferences; written communication; parent training and other meetings/events; and administrative support for childcare, interpreting, translations, etc. Assists in coordinating the professional English Language Acquisition meetings as well as serves on building or district committees, and attends staff meetings as may be requested or as established by school policy. Understands and complies with the policies, rules, and regulations regarding the English learners. Advocates for the program needs that are required to meet the learning needs of English In grades 5-12, this position may participate in a co-teaching model. Administers language screeners and required assessments to guide instruction as well as those required by law (WIDA). Assists in providing professional development regarding Multi-Language Learners to instructional staff. Maintains accurate electronic student records of students participating in the EL Program. Recruits and provides training for district EL volunteers and community mentors. Performs such other and not specifically enumerated duties as may be requested by the Board of Education, Curriculum Director, or principal. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiating instruction based upon student learning styles. Knowledge of high school curriculum and concepts. Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. Knowledge of safety practices and procedures. Skill in classroom instruction. Skill in operating equipment used in a classroom setting, including a computer; planning and managing projects. Skill in preparing and maintaining accurate records; and using pertinent software applications. Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed. Ability to organize and coordinate work. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. Ability to be flexible to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Ability to problem solve to analyze issues and create action plans. Ability to manage time, adapt to changing work priorities. Ability to adjust daily work plans and work hours to be highly responsive to school needs Required Qualifications Valid Montana Teaching License. Elementary Education Edorsement Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find acceptable. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to English language acquisition. EL Endorsement or willingness to earn endorsement within 3 years Preferred Qualifications Proficiency in Spanish Equipment Uses standard classroom equipment such as personal computers, projectors, copy machines, and telephone. Travel Requirements Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. Physical and Mental Demands and Work Hazards Performs routine classroom related work. Regularly works inside. Frequently required to work at a fast pace. Possess a comfort with ambiguity. Exposed to minimal temperature variations. Generally hazard free environment. Carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. Significant fine finger dexterity. Requires considerable concentration and creativity. The environment can be stressful due to the nature of the work. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Frequently required to sit, occasionally walk and stand and reach with hands or arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Required to be able to hear conversations in loud and quiet environments. May be required to lift or carry up to 10-30 pounds routinely with or without an accommodation. The employee frequently works within time constraints and must maintain attentiveness intensity. Frequently involved in interactions which require oral and written communications. Exercises flexibility and the ability to shift from one task to another. Occasional travel/mobility between schools, or between schools and the Administration office, may be required. Effective hearing and speech abilities.
