Job Description

IFF is seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist to work in the biocatalysis group. The successful candidate will conduct research through the use of biocatalysis applied for the synthesis of IFF fragrance ingredients.

In this role, close collaboration with scientists of multiple disciplines - chemists, biochemists, chemical engineers is expected. The successful candidate should be adaptive, self-motivated, with a passion for science, and thriving in a team environment. The position will be located at the IFF Scent Manufacturing Site in Benicarló, Spain. Please note that this position is laboratory based.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct experimental work focused on enzymatic transformations for the synthesis of fragrance ingredients.

  • Setup and operate from microscale to liter scale biocatalytic reactions.

  • Instrumental analysis for biocatalytic reactions and their end-products using tools such as HPLC, GC, MS, UV-Vis, and NMR.

  • Generate and effectively communicate data. Document results in laboratory notebooks and reports.

  • Maintain a safe and clean research environment.

  • Participate to common tasks related to laboratory maintenance (ensure stocks, laboratory material availability, maintenance of equipment)

Job Requirements

  • M.S. in biochemistry or chemistry or related field is preferred.

  • Working experience in industrial or academic labs is preferred (>1 year).

  • Demonstrated knowledge of organic chemistry or biochemistry is required by manipulation and use of laboratory set ups and regular use of analytical techniques.

  • Demonstrated organizational skills with excellent attention to detail . able to deliver consistent and high-quality experimental data.

  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to protocols and produce precise documentation of experimental work.

  • Highly motivated and organized. Able to adapt to changes, drive multiple workstreams in parallel, and thrive a fast-paced R&D environment

  • Demonstrated learning skills.

  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal and collaborative skills.

  • Fluent and proficient in English
