Boiler Operator works on a rotating shift to operate and maintain a dual fuel steam plant with large electric centrifugal chillers. Maintain operations logs. This position is a Grade: 8 - 40 with an approximate salary range of $46,180-$55,420 and is subject to change based on experience, skills and qualifications

  1. Facility Operations

Start and shut down boilers. Monitor energy management graphics and disposition alarm messages. Inspect utility plant equipment, cooling towers, and building mechanical rooms. Perform chemical analysis on operating boilers. Calibrate water quality analyzer and operate water softeners. Start and stop air compressors and air dryers. Starts and shuts down centrifugal chillers. Troubleshoots operating difficulties and takes corrective action. Legibly records readings of plant operating parameters. Maintains computer log of plant operations and conditions. Cleans machinery and spaces. Responds to emergencies. Works with HVAC tech/mechs to perform assigned tasks.

  1. Repairs and maintains machinery and equipment

Monitors mechanical devices in operation to identify source of trouble. Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts. Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments. Repairs or replaces defective parts. Lubricates and cleans parts. Starts devices to test performance. Performs preventive maintenance.

Variable Shifts/Schedule; Rotating weekly day/middle/night as part of a 4 person crew for 24x7x365 coverage.

The duties of the position do not allow for a remote work option; the employee in this position will be required to work on campus where they can be fully accessible to the Lehigh community

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED is required; Technical field of study

Three to five years of related work experience

Professional boiler training such as a Black Seal license or experience in the military working on boilers preferred

Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position
