We are looking for a HYBRID Assistant Controller to join our team in Birmingham, Alabama. This role is crucial for our financial team, as it involves handling complex accounting procedures, including the preparation of financial statements, budgeting, and financial analysis. This position is part of a small accounting team and will report directly to the CFO.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in preparing financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and forecasts of future performance.

• Ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately and timely in accordance with GAAP and Fund Accounting - Non-Profit principles.

• Aid in the development and implementation of new financial systems and processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.

• Work closely with the CFO to manage financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning.

• Liaise with external auditors to facilitate regular audits and ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations.

• Collaborate with the senior accountant to manage all accounting operations, including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, and Counsel, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and Revenue Recognition.

• Support month-end and year-end close process.

• Assist in the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances.

• Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.

• Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.

• Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.

Requirements • Applicant must possess a solid understanding of GAAP Accounting.

• Experience in Fund Accounting within the Non-Profit sector is essential.

• Able to maintain financial security by adhering to internal controls.

• Proven ability to prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements.

• Should exhibit research skills to analyze variances and explore potential discrepancies.

• Ability to coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts.

• Experience in conducting internal and external audits to ensure compliance.

• Capable of managing and complying with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.

• Proficient in developing and documenting business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.

• Demonstrated leadership skills to manage a team of accounting and finance staff.

• Excellent communication skills to interact with executives and department heads.

• A degree in Accounting or Finance is required; a master’s degree or professional accounting accreditation would be beneficial.
