The Position

This position exists to maintain the Normandale Community College facilities in a clean and neat condition so as to foster an atmosphere conducive to the learning process. In addition, this position plays a key role in coordinating the physical set-up of campus events and other related students center programs.

This position will actively advance the college's strategic goals, including to achieve equity in educational outcomes and to support a culturally responsive and service-oriented culture, through individual and departmental efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of:

  • Different types of flooring/floor covering sufficient to determine proper methods of maintenance and appropriate cleaning methods, materials, agents and equipment

  • Chemical cleaning agents such at ammonia, bleaches, scouring agents and soaps sufficient to appropriately select the agent(s), handle and apply, and dispose of safely

  • Methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance sufficient to use effectively and operate safely and to make minor repairs

Ability to:

  • Physical health and endurance sufficient to perform work functions

  • Follow simple oral and written instructions

  • perform assigned tasks with limited work direction

  • Work in a variety of adverse weather conditions

  • Keep simple records

  • Make minor repairs to an operate simple maintenance equipment

  • Work above the ground level such as on ladders and scaffolding

  • Work in buildings after ventilation systems have been shut off

  • Move and/or transport items weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis

  • Maintain a stationary position for extended periods of time

  • Frequently bend, list, and maneuver items daily

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability and commitment to collaborate and develop effective relationships with people from diverse backgrounds and at different levels in the college

  • Experience with conference room event, catering, and audiovisual equipment/sound system including set up and trouble shooting

  • Knowledge of college policies and procedures, the organizational structure of the college and appropriate channels of communication

  • organizational skills sufficient to prioritize work assignments and multi-task

  • Experience providing work direction to student staff

  • Ability to make minor mechanical repairs and to operate simple maintenance equipment

  • working knowledge and understanding of equipment and materials used in the standard maintenance, cleaning of the college, and adherence to the cleaning plan

  • Knowledge of facility reservation programs and floor plan/mapping software

Additional Requirements
