Boston University LEAD LEARNING DESIGNER & PROGRAM MANAGER, BU Virtual in BOSTON, Massachusetts

Boston University Virtual is a new unit at Boston University focused on the creation of high-quality online degree and certificate programs. We are seeking a seasoned Lead Learning Designer and Program Manager to join the team. The Lead Learning Designer and Program Manager for Online-at-Scale Programs reports to the Assistant Vice President for Learning Strategy and Innovation and works collaboratively in a matrix team environment to lead the design, development, build, and improvement of novel complex, online at-scale degree courses and programs. Focusing on the target audience, pedagogical goals, and overall learning experience for each BUV online-at-scale effort, the Lead Learning Designer works to ensure that online programs and courses meet the agreed upon specifications and standards of quality at scale online learning and the requirements as specified by the partner school or department within BU. In close collaboration with designated BU schools and departments, the Lead Learning Designer provides management and operational leadership for a set of online-at-scale programs to achieve economies of scale in program design, launch, revision, and delivery. They manage program evaluation and improvements based on established key performance indicators and learning outcomes. The Lead Learning Designer and Program Manager provides supervision to a team of learning designers to support BUV online at-scale efforts.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional interpersonal, listening and writing skills.

  • Five or more years of experience developing and managing online courses and projects, preferably in at-scale, cohort-based modality.

  • Extensive knowledge of and experience in the use of LMS and learning design tools.

  • Prior management experience required, or upon promotion, complete a management training program led by the Boston University Office of Organizational Learning and Development.

  • Demonstrated experience with high quality learning design and pedagogy. Ability to communicate and work visually to bring experience design to life with simplicity, clarity, and interactivity.

  • Enthusiasm to explore emerging pedagogies, high-impact practices, new technologies and learner centered strategies.

  • Ability to model positive constructive leadership with a commitment to mentorship.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and work with team members with a variety of backgrounds, disciplines levels of expertise in a fast-paced matrixed environment.

This is a hybrid role, with a requirement to be on campus for up to three days per week.
