State of Massachusetts Nursing Education and Training Leader - RN VI in Boston, Massachusetts

The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital (LSH) is seeking an Education and Training Leader to join our Nursing Education and Training Department. The incumbent will be responsible for the planning, development, coordination, and oversight of the facility wide education program including clinical and non-clinical hospital orientation, competency assessment, continuing education, and training. Ensures the program meets regulatory and Joint Commission requirements. The Leader will collaborate with PHH Bureau Education Director on facility education and training initiatives and provide oversight for Education and Training staff, including Informatics, and related programs. Join our team for an engaging experience in striving to maintain the highest standards of care for our patients and staff. /_Schedule:_/// Monday - Friday 7:30AM-4PM /_Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):_//__/ * Responsible for the oversight of facility-wide Education and Training Department including involvement in hiring, directing, supervising, and evaluating staff. * Responsible for the development and oversight of the facility-wide education program including clinical and non-clinical orientation, competency assessment, continuing education, and training, including mandatory and annual trainings. * Provides oversight for the Nursing Information System staff and related programs. * Responsible for assessing and meeting the learning needs of all clinical and non-clinical departments to ensure that employees remain effective in their roles. * Provides direct instruction for clinical and non-clinical staff via various methods including classroom, Just-in-Time education, one-to-one and other methods to meet the needs of the staff and hospital. * Provides collaboration in the formation of relevant policies and procedures with hospital leadership. * Collaborates with department heads on initiatives to maintain or improve patient quality and safety. * Assesses the potential for development of educational programs directed toward patients and families; where feasible, implements these programs. * Works cooperatively and collaboratively with hospital personnel and staff to assure that adequate educational programs are provided. * Supervises members of the Education Training Department, facilitating their development and evaluating their performance. * Provides and coordinates oversight of the learning management system. * Develops assessment and documentation processes for the evaluation of new employee performance including collaborative discussions with line supervisors. * Ensures there is a reliable process for documentation of employee education training records (orientation, competency assessment, etc). * Compiles data, prepares and submits reports, maintains complete and accurate accounts of all programs and staff participation. * Knowledgeable of all requirements of regulating and licensing agencies. * Chairs the Nursing Councils when designated; sits on all appropriate nursing and hospital committees. * Continually reviews all educational programs for appropriateness, seeking to promote best practice and current knowledge. * Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal laws including but not limited to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations which govern the privacy and confidentiality of information about patients. * In partnership with senior leadership, maintains professional relationship(s) with clinical affiliates. Maintains and promotes affiliation with academic facilities to encourage clinical rotation. * Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. * Operates computer software programs effectively, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, in order to maintain records, data bases, and communications. /_Required Qualifications:_//__/ * Knowledge of contemporary theories and practices in Nursing, and training methods and techniques. * Sound interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport and deal tactfully with diverse individuals. * Knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision, including planning and assigning work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished, the capabilities of subordinates and available resources; controlling work through periodic reviews and/or evaluations; determining subordinates’ training needs and providing or arranging for such training; and either recommending or initiating disciplinary action. * Plan and conduct training or instruction for all staff. * Ability to conduct interviews. * Knows the principles and practices of healthcare administration. * Understands methods used in evaluating nursing practices.// /_Preferred Qualifications:_/ * Knowledge and skill in Gerontology Nursing Practice. * Organizational dynamics and expectations related to the chronic health care system and the state system. * Ability to collaborate effectively and enhance counseling and interviewing skills. /_About the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital:_/ Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is a fully Joint Commission accredited teaching facility that provides acute, subacute, and ambulatory care to patients referred by public agencies and private sector providers. Shattuck Hospital’s services help economically and socially disadvantaged patients to get high quality, cost-effective care from a staff that respects their dignity. Located in the heart of Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood, the Shattuck Hospital includes 248 inpatient beds including 95 Psychiatric beds and 29 Correctional Health beds. In addition, the Shattuck has a full outpatient clinic with many specialties that offers treatment to patients of the Department of Mental Health as well as Department of Correction and House of Correction inmates and community patients. The Shattuck hospital is on the forefront of substance use disorder treatment including a Suboxone clinic serving 200 patients.
