West Sound Technical Skills Center

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The person assuming responsibility for this position will supervise and instruct students enrolled in the Automotive Technology Program. Responsibilities include teaching students the basic academic, hands-on, and employability skills required in the automotive service industry leading to entry-level technician careers and additional training. This individual will be expected to work collaboratively and cooperatively as a team member with Skills Center staff in combining/enhancing services for students.

Reports to and evaluated by: West Sound Technical Skill Center Director or Designee

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Work with Skills Center administration, Skills Center staff, and agencies including related advisory committees, professional associations, and postsecondary institutions to develop integrated, relevant academic, employability, and student learning competencies

• Utilize and maintain approved Skills Center program framework requirements and core curricular student learning competencies

• Teach and assess safety in the classroom

• Teach students to become automotive service technicians

• Prepare and maintain long-range and weekly lesson plans with identified learning targets

• Understand and comply with all state regulations regarding the automotive service industry 

• Provide effective instruction in all subject areas, meeting the needs of the students in the classroom

• Collaborate with administration and staff to provide needed instruction for students and to participate in delivering collaborative projects

• Engage in purposeful, deliberate planning for instruction using current teaching techniques

• Follow District and State guidelines for essential learning and instructional strategies

• Model lifelong learning, positive self-esteem, and respect for others

• Coordinate opportunities for students to get on-site at local agency locations to provide real- world, practical experiences

• Set and maintain high personal, professional, and instructional standards for self and students

• Adhere to Washington Code of Professional Conduct

• Instruct students in leadership development, both inside and outside of the classroom; develop and implement effective leadership opportunities for all students, as well as, basic conduct skills

• Implement and participate on community advisory committees, curriculum and program reviews

• Maintain individual student records and report progress as required

• Maintain equipment and supplies

• Maintain viable business/industry/labor contacts and assist in student placement

• Be cognizant of safety and health factors; provide a safe learning environment

• Work with related instructors in participating high schools and/or at the community college to maintain program articulation, a good working relationship, and a positive Skills Center image.

• Participate in in-service and professional training

• Maintain appropriate and required student records

• Communicate student assessment goals and progress to students, parents and student's sending school on a regular basis

• Work as an effective member of the Skills Center staff to evaluate, market, and improve the assigned program
