Outreach Development Corporation Substance Abuse Counselor in Brentwood, New York

SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELOR -

Summary of Position:

The Substance Abuse Counselor (SAC) is responsible for the delivery and implementation of long-term supervision, support and clinical services to a population of chemically dependent clients. The SAC serves as a member of the treatment team.

Job Specific Criteria:

  1. Provides weekly caseload group sessions to assist clients in developing and obtaining goals, including those noted in the treatment plan.

  2. Provides bi-weekly individual counseling session to assist client in developing and obtaining goals, including those noted in the treatment plan.

  3. Document and chart all aspects of client progress through the use of plans, progress notes and other agency forms and tools.

  4. Supervise clients in self-medication (under supervision).

  5. Communicate all pertinent information, incidents and emergencies using the appropriate system including the SAC communication log, incident reports to supervisor.

  6. Provide crisis interventions and follow up including documentation of the incident, accident and/or elopement reports.

    7 . Other duties as assigned.

    Standard Criteria:

  • Producing accurate, neat and thorough work.

  • Bilingual a plus (Spanish preferred)

  • Experienced in social work

  • Schedule: Monday & Thursday 9 am to 5 pm; Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 1 pm to 9 pm

  • Prioritizing and planning work time efficiently; effectively managing competing demands and dealing with changes, delays and unexpected events.

  • Understanding and consistently complies with agency policy and procedures (including time and attendance, dress code, etc…).

  • Supporting a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that allows the employee to get along with clients, students, coworkers and supervisors.

  • Communicating (in writing as well as orally) clearly and concisely

  • Illustrating flexibility and adaptability in role and function when circumstances warrant; (demonstrates openness to assist in needed responsibilities in evolving situations).

  • Maintaining appropriate boundaries, ethics and professionalism; complying with agency, OASAS and other professional code(s) of ethics; seeking supervision when challenges arise.

Qualifications:

Experience working with substance abuse clients working in a therapeutic community setting.

Certificates & Licenses:

CASAC or CASAC-T, LCSW, LMHC, LMSW, MHC-LP, MSW-LP
