Responsibilities
Responsibilities and Knowledge required for this position include:
• Analyzes multi-state and multi-jurisdiction payroll tax data, performs calculations,
and ensures that payroll information is reported to federal,
state, and local agencies as required.
• Weekly administration of payroll tax activities (federal, state,
and local withholdings) for assigned legal entities, including timely and accurate
distribution of tax remittances according to tax jurisdiction
guidelines.
• Responds to tax notices and coordinates with accounting
for payments to be paid promptly.
• Audits payroll for tax functions and accuracy each week.
• Supports preparing and processing accurate and
timely federal, multi-state, and multi-jurisdiction withholding
tax payments.
• Assume responsibility for any W2 corrections and reissues that are required.
• Interacts with payroll, finance, and accounting seamlessly, including written and oral communication.
• Manages the working relationship with external tax vendor but demonstrates and assumes the ability to handle all in-house tax duties.
• Ability to process with Ceridian 3rd party tax vendor.
Goals
• Perform and build compliance and year-end reporting.
• Design, document, and review payroll tax processing
procedures.
• Work with the Sr. Director of Payroll & Tax and other stakeholders to organize and facilitate ongoing documentation development, evaluation, and maintenance to
ensure complete, accurate, and up-to-date depiction of
processes.
• Develops and implements a strategy for bringing all tax responsibility internally, including filing, payments, correspondence, reporting, and timely W-2s.
• Uses project management concepts to achieve organizational goals.
• Assist the Sr. Director of Payroll & Tax with special projects as needed, including other duties as required.
Qualifications
• Five-years’ experience in payroll tax reporting and compliance
in a multi-state / large corporation.
• Demonstrated success in standing up new organizations, consolidating organizations and aligning successor organizations from a tax reporting and compliance perspective.
• Complete understanding of payroll tax quarterly and annual
reconciliations.
• Knowledgeable in jurisdiction guidelines and the ability to
interpret and explain employment tax laws.
• Applying employee state and local taxation based on
regulatory requirements.
• Ability to work with high demand and quick turnaround.
• Exceptional ability to communicate effectively across organizational departments and geographies.
• Customer service mentality, with the capacity to work independently, yet remain an important part of the overall payroll and human resources team.
• Ability to run reports upon request in BI Business intelligence
