What the role will involve
Recent growth of L3Harris Space & Airborne Systems Australia (SASA) means further opportunities exist within the Mechanical Engineering Design team to support ongoing project work in the mechanical design and production of a range of new and existing products.Specific responsibilities include:
Design of new packages for microwave subsystems, which will predominantly be used in an airborne environment or similar or modification of existing products
Mechanical design and solid part modeling, thermal analysis and dynamic analysis using either manual calculations or a CAD/FEA package, whichever is most effective for the design activities at the time.
Familiarity with software packages for solid modeling, thermal analysis and dynamic analysis, such as Solidworks, is required
Production of mechanical drawings and assembly documentation. Familiarity with drawing packages such as Autocad and DraftSight is required
Minimising size and weight in package designs
Design test jigs and/or fixtures for environmental testing of prototypes and production units
Qualification testing of new products, including vibration, shock, humidity, etc
Evaluation and development of manufacturing processes to improve quality and efficiency
Selection and management of subcontractors
Creation of part numbers in the ERP system including required procurement information
Ability to generate a bill of materials for entry into the ERP system
Work with Procurement to source and procure parts required for prototypes/production
Ability to deal with customers and present design details during review e.g. customer design reviews
Review project schedules and meet financial and time constraints
Take part in manufacture and test of modules when exceptional manufacturing work load requires this
Provide Engineering support to manufacturing as required
Maintain a focus on producing quality products and either recommend enhancements which will promote customer satisfaction or cost reductions
Recommend enhancements from time to time to the company’s actions in achieving outstanding customer satisfaction
What you’ll bring
To be successful in this role and to best leverage the opportunities provided by L3Harris, some skills & experience ideal applicants will bring include;
Degree in mechanical engineering
2+ years’ experience in a similar role
Familiarity with modelling software packages, such as Solidworks, for thermal analysis, solid part modelling, dynamic analysis, etc.
Familiar with drawing software such as Autocad and/or DraftSight
Ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team
Excellent computer skills
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely to internal and external parties
Accuracy, thoroughness, persistence and attention to detail
Familiar with a production environment
