Why this role matters

In this role, you will be accountable for the overall technical design and evolution strategy for Radio Access Technology Coverage & Service design.

The output of this role has a direct impact on:

• Mobile radio spectrum acquisition

• Site antenna systems infrastructure strategy

• New site acquisition volumes.

• Radio Coverage & Service delivered to BT customers.

• Conformance to Regulator License T&C – Example: OFCOM etc

As such this role has a significant impact on shaping the Mobile RAN Strategy & subsequent budget required to deliver this.

This role can be based in Bristol, Birmingham or London . Our hybrid working model means there is a requirement to be in the office 3 days per week.

You'll have the following responsibilities

This role is integral to BT where you will have an influence on our strategy and provides exposure within BT to our senior leadership team in addition to internal and external regulators such as OFCOM.

This is a multi-faceted role where you will be at the forefront, looking at new technology.

Responsibilities include: (please refer to the job description for full details of this role)

• Accountable for the production and “field” verification of 2/3/4G/5G Link Budgets and coverage thresholds ensuring documentation & results are peer reviewed, version controlled and stored in common repository inc defining yearly budget requirement, procuring & managing test resource or equipment.

• Accountable for production of Coverage Assurance Field Testing methodology documentation for new spectrum or repurposing of existing spectrum for new technology. Inc defining yearly budget requirement, procuring & managing test resource or equipment.

• Responsible for supporting in the definition of Planning Tool calibration methodology - Accountable as one of the “sign offs” post calibration testing ensuring agreed methodology followed and Planning tool accuracy meets commercial, ESN & Regulatory coverage accuracy specifications.

• Accountabe for assessment of RAN Features and functionality ( directly impacting link budget or coverage) to: a) Support in determining feature deployment priority of next software release b) Engage vendors to prioritise development of feature or functionality in future releases.

• Accountable for the Spectrum strategy in term of Technical lead for response documents commenting on Ofcom analysis, Policy & Technical Licence Conditions

You'll have the following skills and experience

We are looking for someone with experience of propagation modelling / mobile network radio coverage and internal and external regulatory affairs (particularly OFCOM). In addition to that, you will be a brilliant collaborator and relish the opportunity to utilise your strategic decision making.

In addition experience in Mobile Access Network Design with specific experience, acting as the primary technical interface between Design and Regulatory teams.

Security clearance may be required.

Key Skills

• Deep understanding of Mobile Radio Network Air interface, protocols and specifications.

Manipulating & interpretting multiple sources of complex data to derive both technical design guidelines and strategic recommendations

• Strong skills in building the case for change, drawing on data and analytical techniques where appropriate, and communicating this to both technical and wider business audiences

• Knowledgeable in business strategy and the drivers of organisational performance, including people drivers of performance and financial literacy (e.g. business KPIs, business cases)
