Where the chemistry happens…

Join our team as a Sr. Specialist Phytopathology and play a key role in the design, development, and execution of disease resistance screening activities. You will collaborate closely with our phytopathology principal scientist and plant breeding teams to support the selection of disease resistant hybrids. Additionally, you will independently perform projects and R&D activities to drive continuous trait discovery and the development of new technologies and products.

As part of your responsibilities, you will supervise research technicians to ensure the efficient completion of R&D activities and support the program and crop team in developing innovative and competitive products, procedures, and technologies while improving time-to-market.

As a Sr. Specialist Phytopathology, You Create Chemistry By...

• Designing, planning, implementing, and executing disease resistance screening (artificial and natural) experiments including to evaluating, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting the results of the research experiments with involvement of the Scientist.

• Maintaining and amplifying a selection of plant pathogenic bacteria, fungi, viruses, and vector insects.

• Provide technical support to breeding, M&S colleagues, and customers by diagnosing disease problems that arise in the fields or greenhouses.

• Managing day to day operations including coordinating and communicating of activities/tasks to technicians and seasonal employees regarding the execution of research experiments and activities within the defined projects.

• Maintaining safety and hygiene within the phytopathology laboratory, plant growth rooms, and greenhouses compliant with federal and state permit requirements.

• Implementing new technologies, procedures and products and seek innovative methods and techniques toward research projects to create added value or make them more efficient.

• Collecting, analyzing, storing, and organizing data digitally. Maintaining digital database and ensuring data integrity in order to contribute to data-driven decision making.

• Ensuring the supplies and equipment in order to meet agreed standards, time planning and budgets and contributing to an efficient and effective operating research team.

If you...

  • Possess a BSc in plant pathology, microbial sciences, plant breeding, genetics, or closely related field or MSc in plant pathology or similar field.

  • Have aBSc with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or MSc in plant pathology or similar field with 2 years of relevant experience.

  • Have knowledge and application of sound scientific method and foundational understanding of plant physiology, plant breeding and/or plant biotechnology.

  • Knowledge of methods and equipment used by a plant pathologist and/or microbiologist and basic understanding of plant cultivation & development are required.

  • Have experience with data collection, analysis & interpretation skills as well as experience working with MS Office products and database management.

  • Are an effective communicator, both written and verbal, capable of producing experimental reports and have flexibility to work within a team, but capability to work independently.

  • Have greenhouse, plant growth chamber, and laboratory maintenance skills, preferred.

  • Previous leadership experience, preferred.

  • Ability to travel up to 10% - US and Canada
