SCL Health Coding Audit Training Specialist in Broomfield, Colorado

Job Description:The purpose of this position is to perform all professional coding responsibilities for an assigned group of clinics and/or providers.

Scope

1.Assigns ICD, CPT and HCPCS coding classifications based on clinical documentationand/or physician orders. Utilizes appropriate tools, resources and guidelines to determine codes and assign principal and secondary diagnoses. Obtains clarification from physicians, clinical departments and others on documentation questions, as needed. Performs coding at a complex inpatient hospital coding complexity, such as Medicare and Medicaid charts with extended length of stays and multiple surgeries with extended consultation 2. Serves as subject matter expert and mentor for coding associates. Develops and delivers training for IP/OP coding, answers coding questions, designs training plans to meet needs of coders to achieve high level of accuracy. Assists HIM Manager with coding meetings. 3. Participates in the hiring, interviewing, and onboarding of new associates within the departments. Monitors and performs quality assurance. Performs coding audits on coders and reports them to the SCLHS Compliance department. Complies daily and monthly reports as needed and requested. 4. Maintains assigned work queues within defined processing timeframe and meets or exceeds productivity standards. 5. Verifies data abstracted and entered from the EMR. Ensures integrity of the database for internal and external data reporting. 6. Adheres to all compliance guidelines, both internal and external. Participates in continuing education programs to maintain an understanding of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, disease processes and surgical techniques to support the effective application of coding guidelines and maintain credentials. 7. Promotes mission, vision, and values of SCL Health, and abides by service behavior standards. 8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Associate Degree in Health Information or in a related field required Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credential through American Health Information ManagementAssociation (AHIMA) required Five (5) years experience in a hospital or acute care setting, including inpatient and outpatient coding experience using both ICD and CPT coding requir

Preferred Bachelor Degree in Healthcare related field preferred Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) OR Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)

Utilizes critical thinking thought process to assign appropriate clinical diagnosis and procedure codes in accordance with nationally recognized guidelines. 3. Maintains knowledge of CPT codes assigned by departments at the time of charging and alerts departments when improper CPT codes are entered to assure accurate billing of accounts. Computer skills and 10-key typing proficiency. 4. General software skills with MS Office products, including Word and Excel. 5. Strong communication and integrity skills, both verbal and written, in order to interpret medical documents and communicate effectively with medical professionals especially related to compliance guidelines . 6. Ability to work independently in a remote environment. 7. Demonstrates attention to detail for accuracy requirements. 8. Familiar with coding software such as 3M encoder, Epic and computerized assisted coding applications preferred. 9.
