About the Role

This is an opportunity to dive deep into the contentious world of IP regulation and litigation. This is a high-pressure beat in which there’s an expectation you’ll break market-moving news while offering the forward-looking analysis.

You will set the direction for coverage of intellectual property in Europe, while working closely with colleagues in other bureau as part of the broader intellectual property team.

Responsibilities

  • Writing and breaking exclusive news stories on a daily basis

  • Turning around urgent copy quickly

  • Providing in depth reporting and commentary, identify risks posed by legislation

  • Writing in-depth, big impact investigations

  • Mentoring younger colleagues and providing feedback on how to improve their work

  • Working closely with colleagues as part of the broader intellectual property team

    Requirements

  • Experience of news writing for either a daily newspaper or online offering

  • Experience in business journalism, covering intellectual property in the EU. Broad network of sources across EU institutions, industry and law firms

  • Possess a journalism qualification but not necessarily to degree level

  • Possess French and/or German language skills
