Position Description

The Staff Accountant for our non-profit government contracting division is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with federal regulations, and supporting the financial operations of the organization. This role involves handling day-to-day accounting tasks, assisting with audits, and ensuring that financial reports are timely and accurate. The Staff Accountant will work closely with the General Ledger Accountant and the finance team to support budgeting, grant management, and financial planning activities. General Accounting:

  • Maintain general ledger accounts and prepare journal entries.
  • Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and balance sheet accounts.
  • Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes.

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including grantors and government agencies.

Compliance and Audits:

  • Ensure compliance with federal regulations, including OMB Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200).
  • Assist with internal and external audits, including preparation of audit schedules and responding to auditor inquiries.

Other Duties:

  • Support the Finance Manager and senior accounting staff with special projects and initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate and organized financial records and documentation.
  • Stay current with changes in accounting standards and regulations affecting non-profit and government contracting entities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit or government contracting environment.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Deltek Costpoint).
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Familiarity with federal grant regulations and compliance (e.g., OMB Uniform Guidance).
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Salary and Benefits

Expected Salary Range $60,000 - 75,000 depending on role and qualifications.

This is an on-site position, but remote can be considered for the right candidate.
