Elderwood Administrative Services is seeking a Senior Director of Purchasing.

Position Overview:

  • The Senior Director of Purchasing is responsible for providing vision and leadership for the strategic planning and execution of enterprise-wide purchasing / supply chain operations.

  • Ensures the department performs against strategic initiatives while delivering exceptional service and financial value.

  • Collaborates with operational, clinical, financial, physician, and executive leaders in pursuit of enterprise objectives.

  • Evaluates, owns span of control, and directs operations including budget planning, major asset acquisitions, supplier management, contract management, project management, risk management, strategic sourcing, resource planning, expense monitoring, and the complete procure-to-pay (P2P) cycle.

    This is a hybrid role allowing the flexibility to work remote 1-3 days a week. Please note, there are on-site responsibilities. Our corporate office is located at 500 Seneca Street, Suite 100, Buffalo, NY 14204.

Responsibilities

Senior Director of Purchasing

  • Directs enterprise-wide purchasing / supply chain functions toward achievement of system objectives.

  • Utilizes strategy development to provide prioritization and management of team resources and activities.

  • Develops a strong functional team through effective recruiting, training, coaching, team building, and succession planning.

  • Actively promotes an environment of learning and development to ensure alignment with skill levels necessary to achieve work objectives.

  • Develops processes to improve operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. Actively supports the integration, upgrade, or enhancement of existing and emerging technology. Promotes the use of EDI Transaction Sets to solve business needs while enhancing performance and mitigating risk.

  • Drives team performance and develops metrics related to strategy and process improvement initiatives associated with operations, productivity, supplier performance, contract management, strategic sourcing, and procure-to-pay (P2P) initiatives.

  • Provides regular updates on key metrics, deviations from strategic objectives, and plans of corrective action to leadership and team.

  • Oversees the negotiation, contracting, procurement, and management of resources to provide coordinated value-added and enhanced services across the enterprise.

  • Manages supplier base across enterprise and leverages supplier relationships to maximize value, competitive advantage, and technology enhancements.

  • Constructs and oversees associated operating, capital, and project budgets annually and maintains operations within the limits of those budgets. Leads sourcing for capital project acquisitions and the development of Master Terms and Conditions with suppliers. Performs lease vs purchase analytics and incorporates Return on Investment (ROI) analysis when appropriate.

  • Institutes cost savings objectives via strategic sourcing in alignment with enterprise initiatives. Partners with key stakeholders, leadership, and Purchasing Team to define opportunities for expense improvement, mitigation of supplier expense increases, and standardization.

  • Leads strategic sourcing initiatives across enterprise to enhance supplier products, performance, and services to improve processes, reduce expense, eliminate waste, and increase stakeholder satisfaction.

  • Develops commodity strategy using cost models to identify significant cost drivers.

  • Builds strong, positive relationships with key clinical, executive, physician, and operational stakeholders. Meets with enterprise members to review progress toward shared goals. Leads collaborative effort to continually ensure contracted pricing is enforced, DSO (days of sales outstanding) process is improved, accruals are accurate, and expense reductions are implemented. Fosters a positive relationship between Purchasing, key stakeholders, Accounts Payable, and suppliers.

  • Follows all Enterprise policies and procedures as well as local, state, and federal regulations regarding purchasing/supply chain processes related to our industry.

  • Supports and abides by the Enterprise’s Mission, Vision, and Values.

  • Abides the Enterprise’s businesses code of conduct, compliance, and HIPAA policies.

Qualifications

Senior Director of Purchasing

  • Proven leader with a minimum of 7 years progressive healthcare experience in corporate procurement, strategic sourcing, and contracting for a medium-to-large integrated network.

  • Master’s degree in business, healthcare administration, finance, supply chain, or a closely related field preferred.

  • CMRP, CPIM, or CIRM certification preferred

  • Proven project management, process improvement, and analytical skills.

  • Strong organizational and collaboration skills along with the ability work with and lead teams at all levels of the enterprise.

  • Exceptional communication skills (oral and written) with a demonstrated ability to compile meaningful reports and presentations.

  • Fine attention to detail and an inherent ability to continually manage multiple priorities, pressures, and deadlines to achieve enterprise objectives.

  • Experience working with national and regional Group Purchasing Organizations.

  • Solid performance in utilization of strategic sourcing to achieve annual expense-reduction goals.

  • Extensive knowledge of clinical and non-clinical healthcare products, equipment, and services.

  • High proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, Excel (at minimum pivot tables, dbase merging, charts, graphs), etc. Additional expertise in materials management information systems (MMIS), ERP, SAP, EDI Transaction Sets, etc.

  • This position requires regular interaction with residents, coworkers, visitors, and/or supervisors. In order to ensure a safe work environment for residents, coworkers, visitors, and/or supervisors of the Company, and to permit unfettered communication between the employee and those residents, coworkers, visitors, and supervisors, this position requires that the employee be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at an intermediate or more advanced level.
