Your New Role

We are looking for a Payroll Tax Director to lead our employment tax audits and be the main point of contact when liaising with tax authorities. The scope of the role will be primarily California and US focused, with international exposure. Reporting to the Employment Tax Lead, the role sits within the Global Tax Team and will require strong relationship building with Payroll teams and other internal stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have strong audit experience with tax authorities, be comfortable identifying and mitigating risk areas, familiar with solving complex problems and driving continuous improvement. This is a new role, so a flexibility and willingness to deal with a variety of employment tax issues and in various jurisdictions as required is essential. Where these matters require further expertise, the person can engage with external advisors to bring resolution.

Your Role Accountabilities

  • Lead and manage payroll tax audits, ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local tax laws and regulations

  • Act as main point of contact with tax authorities, responding to and resolving tax notices and inquiries

  • Advise on and execute changes to payroll tax processes and procedures, working in partnership with Payroll, Production and Procure to Pay teams

  • Manage third-party advisors to obtain expertise in foreign jurisdictions

  • Support the Employment Tax Leadership with employment tax advisory matters

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of relevant work experience as an Employment Tax specialist or in a similar role

  • Payroll company or accounting firm experience preferred

  • International work experience preferred

  • Bachelor's degree or higher, preferably in accounting or related field

  • CPA preferred

  • US employment tax knowledge is required and global employment tax experience is highly desirable

  • Strong report writing and negotiating skills

  • Good communication skills and proven ability to develop strong professional relationships with internal and external parties.

  • Experienced in problem solving and ability to apply sound judgement in making challenging decisions

  • High level of attention to detail

In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, skill set, experience, and/or performance. Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery’s total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $126,350.00 - $234,650.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros. Discovery provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and sick time and vacation.
