Job Description:

Copper Island Academy is seeking a dedicated Food Service Coordinator who embodies the spirit of "sisu" that is central to our educational model. The Food Service Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our school's food service program, ensuring the provision of healthy, nutritious, and appealing meals for our students and staff. This role involves menu planning, food preparation, compliance with health and safety standards, and coordination with our vendor and local food suppliers.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Menu Planning: Collaborate with the meal vendor to develop and implement nutritious and balanced menus that meet NSLP standards and accommodate various dietary needs and preferences.
  • Compliance and Quality Control: Ensure all food service operations comply with federal, state, and local health and safety regulations and serve as the primary liaison between Copper Island Academy and the meal vendor to address and resolve any issues that arise.
  • Inventory and Record-Keeping: Manage inventory, including ordering, receiving, and storing food supplies and equipment and maintain accurate records of meal counts, food safety inspections, and other required documentation.
  • Budget Management: Work within budgetary constraints to deliver cost-effective meal services and maximize meals served by regularly implementing improvements based on parent, staff, and student feedback.
  • Staff Supervision: Recruit, train, and supervise kitchen support staff, fostering a positive and efficient work environment.
  • Farm to Table Initiative: Develop and maintain relationships with local farmers and food producers to incorporate fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients into the school menu.
  • Vendor Coordination: Work with our food vendor to ensure timely delivery of quality products, coordinate menus, and facilitate integration of Farm to Table.

     Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • National School Lunch Program experience
  • SafeServ certification
  • Valid driver's license
  • Be able to lift 40 pounds
