Responsibilities:

  • ​​​ New Application Filing Support (35%): Prepare and file EP/GB patent applications, coordinating with global IP attorneys. SLB files a large number of EP and GB patent applications each year, the vast majority of which are to be considered as Paris Convention or PCT National Phase validations of first filed US applications. While the Counsel will not be responsible for the substantive preparation of the EP/UK application, they will need to coordinate with the other SLB in-house IP Counsels who prepared the first filings, in order to prepare the filing packages for EP/UK.

  • The Counsel should aspire to be considered the SLB subject matter expert on EP and GB patent filing practices and procedures. As such, the Counsel should be comfortable providing explanation and counselling to their fellow SLB IP Counsel colleagues as to best practices for these jurisdictions.

  • Prosecution & Docket Management (55%): Manage EP/GB patent dockets cost-effectively. Develop prosecution strategies, prepare responses, and handle direct filings. Identify matters to outsource to preferred external counsel as needed.

  • Process Improvement (10%): Propose and implement improvements for cost-saving and process streamlining in patent filing and prosecution.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • UK & EP patent licenses.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of heavy prep/prosecution experience.

  • Excellent understanding of EP and UK patent law.

  • Technical background in Mechanical or Chemical (oilfield) is desirable.
