About the Position

Professor Christina Ciocca Eller (Department of Sociology, Harvard University) is recruiting one full-time predoctoral research fellow to start in summer 2024. The fellow will support and collaborate on projects involving qualitative data coding, survey and administrative data cleaning and analysis, literature reviews, and the development of research grants, reports, and papers. The broad topic of this fellowship is the relationship between public higher education organizations, student outcomes, and inequality.

The successful applicant will receive mentoring from faculty and have access to a broad range of activities at Harvard. This opportunity is likely to provide experience that will be particularly relevant for individuals interested in pursuing a PhD in Sociology, Organizational Studies, Education, or Public Policy.

This position is based in the Department of Sociology at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA. The appointment term for this Fellow is for one year, starting July 2024. Preference will be given to applicants who can be based in the Cambridge area.

Responsibilities

  • Read, code, and analyze interview transcript data

  • Link patterns in interview data to patterns found in academic transcript data, in collaboration with Dr. Ciocca Eller

  • Conduct statistical analyses of data and process and clean raw data using Stata

  • Prepare literature reviews, background research, and other content for project development, grant proposals, and academic papers

    Basic Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Sociology, Psychology, Public Policy, Computational Social Science, Economics, or related field

  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills

  • Distinguished academic record

  • Significant research interest in sociology, organizations, U.S. higher education, inequality, and public policy

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Proficiency programming in Stata

    Additional Qualifications

Preferred

  • Experience with R and/or Python

  • Prior experience as a research assistant or fellow in sociology, organizational studies, education, or public policy

  • Experience with citation management software, preferably Zotero
