Primary Responsibilities

North Country Public Radio is seeking a part-time announcer to host select live and/or pre-recorded air shifts at its headquarters at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York.

Under the general direction of the Program Director, prepare and host fill-in air shifts as assigned, including: gathering and presenting all local program elements within national programming (underwriting, promos, weather, community announcements, etc.) as scheduled, in a personal way that engages the listener and reflects NCPR’s on-air style of delivery. Record, edit, and transfer audio content when needed.

Air shifts may be live or pre-recorded in nature, as assigned by Program Director.

Work with Programming and Engineering staff to communicate discrepancies and equipment concerns, report on underwriting execution, troubleshoot technical problems, and accurately report all program details.

Serve as host or pitch talent as needed during station fundraising activities.

Represent NCPR at station events as assigned and available.

Schedule: Flexible, primarily Sat – Monday part time hours. Can discuss during interview.

Minimum Qualifications

· Bachelors degree preferred; combination of education and experience considered in lieu of completed degrees.

· Demonstrated proficiency writing and editing copy for radio.

· Clear speaking skills required, and radio experience preferred.

· Strong organizational skills.

· Good communication skills – with teammates and with NCPR listeners.

· Good information gathering skills.

· Reliable professional who can work independently and be a cooperative member of a team.

· Ability to record, edit, and transfer audio content.

· Technical equipment/skills: Proficiency with radio on-air and recording studios, including: mixing control boards, microphone, digital audio editing software, CD players and other radio equipment. Preferred familiarity with: automation system playback, Wavecart playback software, Allegiance broadcast logs, Emergency Alert System equipment.

Salary $18.00/hr.
