SUMMARY: The role of the CNC Programmer is to obtain expert status in CNC programming software and executing programs for the machine department in time to meet production demands. Stage various production work centers. Work is fast paced, requiring individuals to work independently, diligently and safely. Work is reviewed by a supervisor or senior worker to ensure the quality and accuracy of work, when appropriate.

*ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reading and interpreting technical blueprints and design models.
  • Calculate and write programs for CNC work centers to fabricate component parts to stated engineering specifications
  • Routinely collaborates with Engineering and Management teams to ensure parts are correct to spec and shop drawings
  • Develop CNC programs for production runs
  • Analyze drawings to determine dimensions and to choose cutting tools, machine speeds, and feed rates
  • Modify existing programs for different machines
  • Maintain tooling database
  • Make manual program adjustments as necessary
  • Loading raw materials into the CNC machine.
  • Inputting the product design into the computer modeling software.
  • Choosing and loading the correct cutting tools for the job.
  • Adjusting machine settings to the desired product specifications.
  • Troubleshooting issues during the manufacturing process.
  • Completing quality control tests during the manufacturing stage and on the final product.
  • Cleaning and maintaining the machine.
  • Training new staff on machine operation procedures.
  • Ability to read production schedules, and plan ahead for material use to enhance manufacturing operations.
  • Comply with all operating procedures, instructions and safety rules.
  • Communicate effectively with and work well with others, including but not limited to, during shift changes.
  • Recognize and report all quality issues, to operators, line lead, and/or supervisor.

EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, AND PROFICIENCIES:

  •  High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a technical or associate degree program a plus
  • Experience programming 3- and 5-axis CNC mills
  • Familiarity with Mastercam and GeoPath
  • Basic math skills
  • Previous work experience as a CNC programmer.
  • Ability to read and interpret design blueprints.
  • Extensive experience with computer modeling software.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and stick to a deadline.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects.
  • Ability to work after-hours when required.
