The role of the Career Counselor is to provide vocational services to individuals participating in Living Resources’ College Experience Program (CEP). The College Experience Program is a two year certificate program that prepares individuals with disabilities for independent living and competitive employment. Through classroom instruction and practical work experiences, the Career Counselor’s goal is to help students acquire the skills needed for success in a competitive work environment. In addition to teaching employment-based curriculum, the Career Counselor will place students in internships in the Capital Region and provide on-the-job supports to help them learn & perform their duties. The position requires close collaboration with OPWDD, Care Coordination Organizations, employers, family members, and other support networks. Duties include the following :

1) Teach employment-based curriculum to CEP students

2) Collaborate with the Career Counselor and Business Liaison to plan for and secure internships, assessments, and job shadow opportunities for students

3) Provide individualized job coaching supports, including career exploration, resume development, interview preparation, completion of applications, travel training, assistance learn job tasks, and other on-the-job supports

4) Complete all SEMP and ACCES-VR documentation

5) Complete all components of the OPWDD Employment Training Program’s Discovery and enrollment process: observation, community-based work assessments, career exploration, job development plan, etc.

Requirements

  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree and at least one year of experience working with individuals with disabilities.

  • Experience as a teacher or educator preferred.

  • Strong case management skills.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

  • Familiarity with OPWDD’s Employment Training Program preferred but not required.

Salary Description
