Space Vehicle Systems Engineer

KBR has an opportunity for a Space Vehicle Systems Engineer to support the SSPO Vehicle Engineering Branch (VEB). SSPO VEB requires an experienced space systems engineer familiar with spacecraft procurement activities from initial concept development through on-orbit delivery of the fully activated and deployed space vehicle to provide direct support to the Vehicle Branch chief, and assist in Space Vehicle System Engineering (SVSE) for the spacecraft. This multi-disciplined position encompasses system engineering and contract technical and programmatic surveillance for the sell-off of space vehicle systems, as part of a government/contractor team. The following tasks are representative of those that will be accomplished at the request of the customer:

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide primary support, as required, to the customer

  • Provide expert advice concerning space vehicle equipment development, test, verification, validation, integration and performance activities.

  • Assist in identifying, tracking, evaluating and mitigating technical, financial and schedule risks -- participate in the VEB and contractor risk management processes.

  • Provide formal and informal feedback to the Branch Chief on all aspects of program status.

  • Provide day-to-day support to SPO Government Points of Contact (GPOCs) to address routine actions; provides recommendations/products that reflect the best technical and programmatic path for the SPO based on extensive acquisition experience.

  • Review and coordinate on all changes to specifications, ICDs and system level requirements documentation.

  • Review space vehicle level artifacts in support of major design review milestones (e.g. PDR, CDR).

  • Track development issues, significant accomplishments and upcoming events; provides status updates to the customer.

  • Attend system level design reviews, and program management reviews to assess design maturity, requirements compliance and to provide informed technical recommendations to the customer.

  • Review, document and trace functional and interface requirements for spacecraft subsystems, and coordinate with other engineers, FFRDC and developer personnel to resolve issues.

  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with prime contractor counterparts, functional counterparts, and other spacecraft subsystem subject matter experts.

  • Other duties as specified by the customer.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and seven years of space vehicle systems engineering and requirements management experience.

  • Basic understanding of DOD/IC satellite systems and architectures.

  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, team building and problem solving skills with a demonstrated ability to be effective in a government/contractor team environment.

  • Experience in DOD/IC acquisition and program management processes.

  • Experience in the development of DOD/IC mission payloads, associated phenomenology, and their effective integration into system level architectures.

  • Working knowledge of the requirements process across a program’s lifecycle.

  • Familiarity with Earned Value measurement processes.

  • Demonstrated ability to take complex technical issues and present them in a form and format suitable for decision.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated sustained superior performance.

  • Available to travel domestically.
