Emergency Tech II

Department: Emergency - Our Chelsea Emergency Department has experienced physicians and nurses with advanced training in emergency medicine that provide care 365 days a year in the 24-hour Emergency Department. More than 18,000 patients are treated each year for emergencies ranging from life threatening cardiac arrests and strokes, to major injuries and accidents, to more minor injuries. Facilities include a five bay observation center for observation and testing before returning home, as well as 20 private exam rooms adding a greater degree of privacy for patients.

Location: Chelsea, MI

Minimum pay rate: $16.42/hr + based upon applicable on the job patient care experience

Position Purpose:

Under the direction of a registered nurse, the Emergency Room Technician is responsible for direct patient care considering age specific, developmental, cultural and spiritual needs. Demonstrates unit/area-designated competencies. Assists in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe and conducive to patient/family well-being.

Training is provided to prepare our colleagues for success. Our Emergency Tech’s perform nursing care as delegated by the RN in an effort to identify/attain treatment goals such as:

  • Applies support/orthopedic devices such as splints, crutches, slings

  • Obtains routine vital signs, pain score and temperature

  • Applies warm/cold therapies (warm blankets, ice packs, warm soaks)

  • Routine oxygen therapy, pulse oximetry

  • Assist in preparing the body following death

  • Promptly answers call lights

  • Assists with Quality indicators (crash cart integrity checks, refrigerator temperature logs, accucheck quality controls, urine dipstick controls)

Shift Available: Rotating 12 hour shifts dependent upon department needs

Status Available: Contingent – not benefit eligible

Minimum three shifts per month, one shift per month on the weekend. One holiday and hard to staff shift required per year

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or a minimum of 18 years of age.

  • Recent experience desired.

  • Recent training/experience with phlebotomy and starting IV’s required
