Job Summary

Communications Engineering is looking for a Sr. Data engineer who is passionate about leveraging technology to derive meaningful insights using data. As a Sr. Data Engineer, you are responsible for transforming large, complex data into consumable business databases and applications for self-service analytics and reporting. Create system architecture, design and specification using in-depth engineering skills and knowledge to solve difficult development problems and achieve engineering goals. Determine and source appropriate data for a given analysis. Work with data modelers/analysts to understand the business problems they are trying to solve then create or augment data assets to feed their analysis. Has in-depth experience, knowledge, and skills in own discipline. Usually determines own work priorities. Acts as resource for colleagues with less experience.

Major Job Responsibilities

  • Partners with Engineering project Manager to provide consultative direction and develops long term objectives and plans to determine resources, technology and course of action to achieve results.

  • Anticipates and Interprets customer needs, assesses requirements and identifies solutions.

  • Participates in the review of failures and Provides feedback to prevent future occurrences.

  • Build and manage Data pipelines to analyze huge datasets .

  • Design, deploy and manage scalable and fault tolerant data infrastructure to perform ETL operations.

  • Collaborate with key stake holders and translate business requirements to technical requirements and implement solutions under the guidance of technical leads.

  • Perform engineering tasks such as database design, data manipulation, ETL, implementation, information storage and retrieval, data flow and analysis.

  • Solves critical issues and shares knowledge such as trends, aggregate, quantity volume regarding specific data sources.

  • Participate in the implementation of solutions via data architecture, data engineering, or data manipulation within big data systems like Hadoop , Spark, FluentD , Kafka, Cassandra, MongoDB or SQL.

  • Experience with observability solutions for monitoring, alerting, and ad-hoc troubleshooting (Grafana, Alerta , ELK, Splunk, Cloudwatch , Datadog, etc.)

  • Acts as a liaison between business owners and technical associates to ensure the data collected and processed is both actionable and relevant to the end goals.

  • Determines appropriateness of data for storage and optimum storage organization.

  • Interacts closely with cross teamwork streams and suggests areas of improvement to development teams to improve operation efficiency.

  • Responds to customer concerns in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Responsible for database access requests, data security and governance.

  • Creates and maintains documentation for the process and tools used by the team.

  • Stay current with industry trends and source new ways for our business to improve

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Minimum 6-8 years of experience writing data pipelines using Python or Scala is a must .

  • Minimum 6-8 years of e xperience in consolidating and integrating data from multiple sources ( On-Premise & Cloud).

  • Minimum 6-8 years of experience in analyzing, transforming, and aggregating large data sets (Big Data) using Data processing Engines ( Pyspark , Apache Flink ) .

  • Minimum 6-8 years of experience in observability solutions for dashboarding, monitoring, alerting, and ad-hoc troubleshooting (Grafana, Alerta , ELK, Splunk, Cloudwatch , Datadog, etc.)

  • Minimum 6-8 years of experience in dashboarding the transformed data using BI tools ( Tableau, Apache Superset or Apache Redash ) is a must .

  • Strong understanding of database structures, NoSQL or SQL query languages ( Cassandra, MongoDB, Postgres ), fundamentals of mathematics, distributed systems (Hadoop), data science, and statistical concepts is a must .

  • Ability to automate PySpark Jobs using Lambda / Python and fine tune for performance.

  • Ability to use messaging queues like Kafka, FluentD or Logstash is a must .

  • Ability to Architect and Design Big Data Analytics solutions on cloud .

  • Experience with open stack cloud or AWS platform .

  • Experience in AI/ML is a plus.

  • Knowledge of Media /Advertising industry is a plus.

Other Core Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with project stakeholders to identify product and technical requirements. Conducts analysis to determine integration needs.

  • Designs new software and web applications, supports applications under development and customizes current applications. Develops software update process for existing applications. Assists in the roll-out of software releases.

  • Trains junior Software Development Engineers on internally developed software applications.

  • Oversees the researching, writing and editing of documentation and technical requirements, including evaluation plans, test results, technical manuals and formal recommendations and reports.

  • Keeps current with technological developments within the industry. Monitors and evaluates competitive applications and products. Reviews literature, patents and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects.

  • Provides technical leadership throughout the design process and guidance with regards to practices, procedures and techniques. Serves as a guide and mentor for junior level Software Development Engineers.

  • Assists in tracking and evaluating performance metrics. Ensures team delivers software on time, to specification and within budget.

  • Works with Quality Assurance team to determine if applications fit specification and technical requirements.

  • Displays expertise in knowledge of engineering methodologies, concepts and skills and their application in the area of specified engineering specialty.

  • Displays expertise in process design and redesign skills. Presents and defends architectural, design and technical choices to internal audiences.

  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.

  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.
