Position Summary

ISC2 is a global leader in advocating for a vibrant cybersecurity ecosystem. We shape meaningful and impactful policy, regulations, laws,guidanceand frameworks across the globe that ensure the strongest cybersecurity postures possible and raise awareness of and advocate for a well-qualified and well-trained global cybersecurity workforce as a critical component of cybersecurity resilience and strength. As Senior Director, Advocacy (Americas), you will lead all advocacy activities in North America, with a strong focus on the US and Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Develop long and short-term strategies in advancing ISC2’s position as a global cybersecurity leader in the US and Canada

  • Assess opportunities for ISC2 advocacy at the state level in the US and develop and execute a long-term strategy

  • Assess opportunities for advocacy in Central and Latin America and develop and execute a long-term strategy

  • Position ISC2 as a resource for policymakers, regulators and other stakeholders critical to advancing strong cybersecurity policies through continuous stakeholder engagement

  • Craft, pursue and propose opportunities for ISC2 to engage in policy discussions and thought leadership opportunities

  • Review all opportunities to respond to public requests for inquiries (RFI) and the lead the crafting of ISC2’s submissions including gathering input from ISC2 SMEs and members

  • Provide strategic leadership in determining where and to what extent ISC2 should be dialing up or down advocacy activity in any jurisdiction and region given ISC2 strategic and operational priorities

  • Lead the development of ISC2 policy positions at a global, regional and jurisdictional level

  • Educate, engage, leverage ISC2 members into advocacy activities and opportunities

  • Serve as a senior leader and representative of ISC2 values internally and externally

  • Lead, develop and coach staff

  • Oversee and manage budgets

Management Responsibility

  • The role will manage the Director, Advocacy and Policy Manager, who are based in the US.

  • Due to the continued growth and expansion of Advocacy activities, additional direct reports may be added to the scope of the role in future.

Qualifications

  • Superior communication and public speaking skills with an emphasis on verbal communication and interfacing with a diverse array of people

  • Strong computer and technical skills including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and web applications

  • Familiarity with global cybersecurity public policy issues, standards, legal and regulatory schemes and profession politics

  • Experience working within and leading a global team (preferably a remote, distributed workforce) and managing consulting resources

  • History of managing complex policy and thought leadership campaigns and successfully passing multiple bills, regulations, or government policy changes, while building coalitions and managing associated politics and media coverage

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Affairs/Policy Administration, Political Science or related field

  • 10+ years of professional experience in public policy, government affairs and/or legislative and regulatory affairs

Physical and Mental Demands

  • 25% travel

  • Work extended hours when necessary

  • Remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting, for prolonged periods

  • Regular use of office equipment in a remote environment such as a computer/laptop and monitor computer screens.

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other computer components
